well after about a year, ive decided that the cadet is the best bang for the buck compared to the sr20. so...i was wondering who has done the swap and knows of a good source to buy the motor from. i plan on replacing water pump and new seals and belts. i would prefer to buy one from a trusted source so i dont have to tear the entire engine apart smile.gif.
thanks, ben

i bought mine from JHot Imports and they were awesome to me

oldsaltDec 4, 2007, 11:37 pm · #3

sweet, did you get everything they said you would get? and did you call them or just email?
thanks, ben

JulieDec 5, 2007, 12:27 am · #4

i called. it was as complete as i could ask for. engine, trans, mounts, all the engine bits, turbo downpipe, fuel pump, smic, ignitor chip, etc

oldsaltDec 5, 2007, 12:38 am · #5

sweet i appreciate the help ill probably call them in the next couple of weeks. ive got about 1800 bucks right now so in about a week ill have about 2200. i think that will get me all the bits and pieces i need. i read youre buildup thread and think i might just go ahead and do a complete rebuild...and then go with a new turbo. i only want like 225-250 hp

JulieDec 5, 2007, 12:52 am · #6

same as me huh?. its best to rebuild the engine while its out of the car. replace all the pumps and belts. install the upgrades etc. its a pain to swap the turbo with the engine in the car, so just do it while its on a engine stand or work bench

If your willing to spend that much, get a front clip. I got my clip from Jarco Inc for $2000. It was cut from where the front seats bolt in, foward. Came with the tranny, driveshaft, and fuel pump. Got everything I needed, and then some. They are a great importer, like Jhot, are recommended by many. Jarco makes monthly trips themselves to japan, and hand-pick running cars. Once they pass their road test, and engine test, then they chop the clip off, crate it and slow boat it back to the US. No worries about how long they've been sitting on a shelf outside in the weather, like you do with some of these motor-set importers, like Osaka. I've heard some pretty bad horror storries w00t2.gif
Michael, the guy who sold me mine, emailed me from japan with vid clips/ pics of the car/ engine while it was running, pics of compression numbers from each cyl. before it was chopped....and asked if I wanted this one. Once I agreed, I had it in my possession about 30 days later. Their shop is in Atlanta, and he brought it over to me in B-ham for $150, then I rented a trailer from lowes and hauled it down to Niceville to do the swap. Only things I replaced were the timing belt, drive belts, water pump/ gasket, t-stat, exhaust mani gasket, oil pan gasket, spark plugs, o2 sensor, and of course all the fluids. Anyway, no problems a year later running 15psi on a t25g.....knock-on-wood. My biggest concern was what I was gonna do with the carcas and all the left over s13 parts when I was done. I just advertised on Nico, and here, most I gave away for free, just to get rid of it, like the clip itself....some guy came over from Panama City for the front clip carcas, like 2 days later. Everything else I made a little bit of money on, like the instrument cluster, driveshaft, etc.
Here's what it looked like when I received it.........

Thankfully I have one of the best importers on the west coast about 7 hours from my front door to his.
He has a business partner in Japan so he gets really nice engines....
So when I need clips I get enough people together haul down my flat bed or rent one if I need more then 3, I got one I rent that will fit 5 plus etxras for $60 for the weekend.

I split the cost of shipping between everyone ends up being about$80 to $100 dollars each for 3 clips.
Covers my diesel bill, pays for a hotel room and pays for my shipping .
The best thing is I get to hand pick my clips! I always try to go on the day he is getting big shipments in.....more to choose from!

well ive thought about getting as clip. but then decided against it and after reading what you said keith, i might as well get one since i have the money. but i would still rather rebuild the engine completely so i know its in perfect working order. not to mention ill still have to replace all the parts on the clip as i would on the set so it will cost more money meaning a couple more weeks of working
i was also wondering if you got the complete s=13 suspension on youre clip keith?

KeithDec 5, 2007, 11:28 pm · #11

Only reason I didn't rebuild mine, was because my s12 had sat at my inlaws for a year, so once I got the clip, I was driving down on the weekends (5hrs) to work on it......and with the clip taking up their garage, I needed to get it running and back up here pronto. I'll do a complete rebuild when it needs it.

As far as the suspension, it was complete all the way down to the rotors

Call your local wrecking yard ask to talk to the manager and see if they will take it...explain that it is from Japan (never registered no title needed)...

Scrap is through the roof at the moment so chances are they will take it.....
If not pick up a nickel ad or money saver(whatever your local paper is) people run adds in the paper for scrap cars no title needed! They will take anything usually....

I did this with my local yard I made them a deal and they actually send there flat bed over to pick them up!!:D

I don't have any good pics but If you can get other people chip in you can stick fwd motor and tranny's conviently in the passengers side and 2 to3 diffs with axles on the other!

theres a scrap yard near my house that buys scrap metal at 5 cents a pound, so the front of that car would yield a few bucks

the only issues i saw with a motorset was mine arrived with a dented oil pan, so ill need to fix that. the pallet was good kindling though lol

Yep almost every motor set I have got or seen has had a dented pan! SR20'are the worst! Those pans bend if you sneeze to hard.

To many people don't realize they are killing there motor if they don't fix it! I have had 2 RB25 NEO's kill bearings this way and to many SR's to count!
JulieDec 6, 2007, 4:02 am · #15

i know for a fact that it may starve the motor for oil, and thats not a risk im willing to take on a engine thats taking time and money to rebuild. better to just fix the dent then to rebuild it later on in life

Venus in Sac? I use to live about 30 mins from them. I've heard good and bad things about their engines. Imerderios got a ca-det from them a couple of years ago, and it crapped out on him within a month or so....on the other hand I remember a s13 build-up in scc or one of the other mags, and they got their sr from them, and they did nothing but praise venus

I have got more then 20 clips and engines from him. However I go in person and select my own, he takes the time to go through his inventory with me. I took a friend down with me to get an S14 SR20DET, they had just got a container of nothing but s14's in stacked 3 high, he let us go through every last one and pick out the one we wanted.

Never had a problem with him ever.

One clip I got he had bad info on his web page and listed R34 rb25det neo for the same price as R33 rb25det. I called before I went down, he said it was indeed a mistake but gave me that price anyway!

Had a Maf go bad after about 6 months on a rb25 he just sent me 2 to make sure I got a good one!The guy has been nothing but GREAT with me!

But I cant speak for everyone.

I have used several engine supply houses and one ripped me off for a bad SR20DE s14 engine. Had bad bearings sent back the block the said SOL to me......I will not talk shit about them by name but they have already established a bad rep since then.
