Well I just got in the pistons for the new CA18DET I just purchased.
This time I chose to go with Wiseco as they now offer off the shelf pistons for the CA18DET. No more custom made wait or custom made prices like JE or CP!!

Thank you Wiseco for making engine builds cheaper for us!

I got them in and put them on the scale, balancing numbers were spot on. Put the mic on them again right on spec!

I chose the 84mm 8.5:1 this is there largest off the shelf size 2618 forging and the only C/R they offer, unlike my custom made 84.5 CP 9:1. I also went with the optoinal HD pins. Although this is the only compression ratio offered there are several gasket thickness available so with 84mm bore and a 1mm gasket would be approx 9:1.

They have a MSRP of $550 but my cost was $400 + shipping I have also seen them for $450.00 shipped on the innerweb.

My CP's ran almost $800 shipped!

For those of us that aren't running 700 hp these are the ticket!
Two thumps up!

Good to hear.

For me, it was either these, or Arias.

Nice, I've been planning on getting a set of these for awhile now. Wiseco ftw!

Hi

I just got my ca18det Wiseco pistons looking excacly like those from 1 post (matching numbers) and i've got a problem with mounting them. When i checked the movement to the dead lower point of the piston, the bottom of the piston it's hitting oiling system. Can You tell me what shall i do with that ?? Remove the oiling system or cut into the piston about 3mm??

Best regards

Umai NaaJan 27, 2008, 6:10 am · #5

Do not remove the oil squirters.

Do yours have the reliefs cut into them like the ones above?

you could do it yourself but the saefest way is to take your block and pistons to a shop and have do it that way he can make sure al is good....
Umai NaaJan 27, 2008, 7:08 am · #7

Exactly.

You need to find a specialist engine machinist to do it.

ChEsTeRJan 27, 2008, 11:10 am · #8

Where i come from, there aren't many specialist for the ca18det.

A good friend of mine is working on my engine. He build lot of ca18det but the first time with forged pistons.

The OEM pistons have a cut for the squirters. By the wiseco pistons the squirters are hiting the thin wall like shown on the picture.

Umai NaaJan 27, 2008, 11:18 am · #9

Not necessarily a CA18DET specialist.

Even a shop that does V8s, should know a machine shop that can do this sort of work for you. You can't just hack into them with a die-grinder.

ChEsTeRJan 27, 2008, 1:42 pm · #10

We didn't understand each other.

I didn't mean to do it myself.

I know a machine shop that does such things very good. They made already some work on my engine.

The question was should they modify the oiling or the piston.

So i understand that the pistons should be modified.

Thanks for the help.

you dont want to touch the oil squirter as thats a main artery for lubrication and cooling for the piston....you should have the piston modified... now what strikes me as odd is that the wesco piston you got are supposed to be for a ca18det then they should have had the relief for the oil squirters as all ca18dets have oil piston squirters.. you may want to call wesco and ask them why the relief was not there
ChEsTeRJan 27, 2008, 3:58 pm · #12

my ones exactyly as the ones in first post do not have those reliefs, numbers on box and pistons match with wiseco catalog and are marked as "NEW", i'll try to call them tommorow

best regards

make sure you point out to them they sold you pistons that are supposed to be direct fits and obviously they screwed up ...
Umai NaaJan 28, 2008, 12:37 am · #14

Perhaps they are CA18ET pistons?

They don't have the squirters, do they?

no ca18et dont ... they could be for a ca18de those dont have squirters either

Indeed smile.gif

NitroJan 29, 2008, 9:32 pm · #17

Hey, I'm just thinking about purchasing the set of wiseco pistons for my ca18det swap... Waiting for the further info from you guys - I'd like it would be a direct fit. smile.gif

NitroFeb 11, 2008, 8:17 pm · #18

Hey, any more info about the topic? How did you solve the problem with the pistons???

ArroFeb 11, 2008, 10:28 pm · #19

What is the nickel content of these pistons?

NitroFeb 12, 2008, 7:06 am · #20

And what about the oil squirters clearance? What did WISECO said about it?

NitroFeb 21, 2008, 7:41 pm · #21

Hey guys, is there any news? I'm thinking of ordering a set of these right now, I need to know will they fit, please!

Umai NaaFeb 22, 2008, 10:14 am · #22

Likewise.

18de

NitroFeb 22, 2008, 4:45 pm · #26

GUYS, can you tell me the possible solution? I need pistons for my build, and I want to order set of these, but I'm afraid that I will face difficulties during the installation.

Radracer_SFeb 26, 2008, 3:53 am · #27

These are awesome. I have them for my SR.

I want a set of these for ca-et build

NitroApr 1, 2008, 6:16 am · #30

Any troubles with getting them in? Like when they hit the oil squirters?

Umai NaaApr 1, 2008, 9:47 am · #31

I would also like to know this.

Also, how many stickers did you get? tongue.gif

sicjApr 1, 2008, 2:01 pm · #32
Nitro: I need to buy bearings, hone the cylinders, deck the block, and get the crank checked out before I fully assemble the bottom end. So it will be awhile before I can see if they hit or not ohmy.gif Don't know why they would. It's a DET kit so...
If they don't work I'll turn them into tow hook ornamants. Real OG's use pistons not stuffed McD's animals! lol...

Umai Naa: I got two sets of stickers.

Just read the post, this topic starts from... shifty2.gif
Umai NaaApr 2, 2008, 7:00 am · #34

Neato! lol.gif

As soon as you know they'll clear the squirters, please get back to us. It would be greatly appreaciated smile.gif

NitroApr 2, 2008, 7:04 am · #35

One guy from Germany just put a few copper washers (like those in the turbo coolant and oil lines) inder the squirters so they are placed a little lower and the pistons is not hitting it. wink.gif

That's a simple decision I guess.

Umai NaaApr 4, 2008, 9:15 am · #36

Yes, that could work.

zil40Apr 4, 2008, 6:38 pm · #37

hello guys this is my first post i saw that you guys are having prablems with your pistons i bought the same set for my ca18det in my 240 coupe and wiseco told me to grind them my self or to block the squrters or i could send the pistons to them and they would fix them but it would cost me i told them that i thought it was crap that i bought pistons from them that didnt work they didnt say much they gave me a number for a guy to talk to but i cant get ahold of him his mail box is always full so i blocked them off like they said and we will see what happens if it blows up i will call them back and see what they say so good luck to you guys

NitroApr 4, 2008, 8:25 pm · #38

Hey man, just put a few washers under the squirters, don't block them!

Umai NaaApr 5, 2008, 8:50 am · #39

:o

Unless you're an ace machinist, and have a mill, DO NOT GRIND THEM TO CLEAR!!

sicjMay 31, 2008, 9:12 pm · #40

Well finally started my build-up, and yep the pistons hit the squirters! FUCK!

what the hell kinda crap is that? Direct fit my ass.

Also note the pic of the crank position. That's the point in the stroke where the squirters start to touch. It's around 30* +/- from BDC.
The dot of oil on the piston is where the squirter nozzle hits...right on tartget dry.gif

It seems that you assembled it without any oil? Be careful - you can scratch sidewalls of the cyllinders and that won't be good.

Have you tried to fit several copper washers under the squirters?
