So yeah, as most of you know, I bought a 1988 S12 SE model.  So far it has been a fun ride with this car.

She was nicknamed my Scarlet Starlet cause I used to sing for a band and we did a lot of RHCP songs, and I love RHCP.  All my friends knew this, so when i pulled up in this car, they wanted something that sounded old, but not old, so they came up with Scarlet Starlet.

So far, she's beaten a riced Eclipse (not quite sure on the year, i thought it was a 2000 or higher) from a pull at 70 mph nose to nose to 120+.  She beat a Dodge Grand Caravan on the way to work today, and she beat a riced out 2001 civic.

Things done:
- Transmission flush and refill.
- Spectre Intake installed.
- NGK plugs installed.
- New 300ZX Fuel filter installed.
- My trusty radio installed.
- A half assed cleaning of the interior.
- A half assed cleaning of the exterior.
- A true clean and detail of the underbody, with rust remover and sand paper.
- Blacked out front corners and front turn signals (Doing this actually made me not mind the Mk2 grill, though i still may just remove it and fabricate my own.
- Differential flush and refill.
- MSD Blaster SS coil install.
- Upper interior door panel vinyl repair with my trusty 3M trim adhesive and carpet knife.
- Rubberized undercoating of the entire underbody.
- Interior Stripped.
- Painted her flat black.
- Painting the interior to match soon.

Planned (In order):
- Manual Trans Swap (Just need the flywheel from Sterling, and need to buy the Exedy Stage 2 Ceramatalic clutch).
- 300ZX ECU and MAF upgrade (still in search for the 300zx of choice).
- Larger TB from a KADE. (waiting to find even a single fucking 240sx in the yard).
- Single remote mount turbo.

Fucking getto sunroof FTW!!!!!!!!!!

You'd better put something over where you sanded, otherwise hella rust will come back.  You can pick up rubberized underbody coating from anywhere.  That underside was pretty clean, most of the S12 underside is undercoated factory, and it has held up quite well on that car.

they already stopped SO many rocks from flying up and shattering a 2007 Chevy Silverado's windshield while i was driving down the road........if only that one huge one hadnt flown up around them.

Sterling, due to the above information, i didnt have the money to buy the rubberized undercoating yet.

Really? if their not, ill replace them with a hella better set of fogs tonight then.
the ones I have are more or less pointless anyways, not bright at all.

Oh yeah, and Blaster 3 coil installed ftw, i actually do notice a huge difference in performance, its not just a do nothing upgrade.  It was a bitch to find a place to mount it though, since it isnt the E-Core style coil, but no where stocks those, and i needed a project last night, not 3 days after that night....the girlfriend left me.

They did come stock on a few s12's in Japan, maybe even in Oz and Europe(IDK), but not over here. The ones I have are bosch fog lights, they look as close to the ones in Japan as you can get aftermarket wise....also I think the one on the pathfinder look similar too.
The-NoachFeb 23, 2008, 12:01 am · #15

NEVERMIND....they did actually come with them as an option...gregorio has them stock on his S-12

My bad guys haha

Just an update, the car has been running like shit lately, having problems as noted in my thread located here. http://club-s12.org/v3/index.php?topic=20524

i believe its a problem with the Blaster 3 coil that I had installed, i think it may be bad.  I'm getting a blaster 2 SS tomorrow to replace it at no extra charge, as im fairly certain its a defective product.

installed the new Blaster SS coil in place of the Blaster 3, no change in the issue.

Took electrical cleaner to everything i could find, didnt help.

Replaced the TPS, and I'll update when i get a chance to take her out and test it.

New tps did nothing, new plugs and a blocked off vacuum line resolved the issue, im thinking it was the plugs.

XanoMar 10, 2008, 1:05 pm · #26

I take that back...it delayed the problem for about 30 minutes worth of driving time, then the problem came back, its possible the vacuum line got disconnected again though, so i'll have to take a look, i think im gonna buy a bunch of new vacuum lines and replace them all.

so i finally got the brake leak fixed, but havent had a chance to bleed yet.....stupid me.

My brakes went out as i was turning down the street 1 block from my house, i had to coast through a stopsign and let my driveway stop my roll.....i think i'll be bleeding the brakes tonight.

ahhhhhhh realistic stopping distances for the win.....i bled the brakes, and now i can actually STOP my car =D I feel happy inside now, and im a hell of a lot less scared when driving this thing now.

Sterling, Remember i said it felt like I only had rear brakes...I was right.  My fronts had so much air in the lines, but the rears were air free.

the inside but holding the BMC to the booster was almost falling off, and one of the fittings (assuming the one for the fronts, since thats where i found air) was not tightened down as much as it couldve been.
200sxkitcarMar 15, 2008, 2:48 pm · #31

wow thats bad.  Look for vac line pics in half hour, in that thread.

XanoMar 21, 2008, 7:22 pm · #32

I love it when i go to do routine maint and something else fucking appears wrong...i need new rear calipers. the pads were almost gone, but for some reason, i can not retract the piston back into the caliper to install it over the new thick pads.

EternalSwapMar 22, 2008, 1:10 am · #33

...you were turning them, right?

brewster240Mar 22, 2008, 1:20 am · #34

you have to turn it, not compress it.

the pistons screw out. its a function of the e-brake.

i know, it wont turn....thats the problem =P even with the specific piston turner and compression tool, bleeder screw open and all, nothin.
EternalSwapMar 22, 2008, 1:46 am · #36

Lawl. I used the compressor tool from Autozone. I broke it trying to turn it in on my freinds car. I got my deposit back.

So rent AZ tool, and if it breaks, come back to us.

brewster240Mar 22, 2008, 1:51 am · #37

i dont know what a s12 caliper specifically looks like, but the bolt that holds the ebrake arm onto the caliper, where it pivots.

remove that bolt. well loosen it first, and see if that helps. spray some shizzle down in der.

i get autozone tools for free, im friends with every manager up there =P thats what im using right now.

but yeah, anyways, new caliper time, oh, and i saw the reason behind the problem....the big rubber boot on the outside, is all cut and torn in random spots, caused the one piston to rust to the housing pretty tightly.

The other one's problem is the same thing, except it broke loose from the housing, but the rust on the inside was bad enough that those seals were worthless, it was originally sealing from the rust holding them together.
200sxkitcarMar 22, 2008, 3:30 am · #39

20 year old calipers suck.  This is rather common, unfortunately.

XanoMar 22, 2008, 2:47 pm · #40

Well, im officially a retard...the one that i thought had blown the seals.....definitally was the bleeder screw....i was drinking a bit when working on it last night and forgot to fucking tighten it back up...so yeah, i have 1 working caliper, and i can continue to drive my car, i just left the shitty pads on both sides until i buy new calipers.

yeah dude, the road is fucking LIT UP.  I love it, I wish I wouldve done it sooner, I waited too long.  Dude, I like that mine arent plastic though, they are even brighter and clearer.  I'd recommend that eBay company any day of the week, I paid like 27 bucks total, and got two hardcore headlamps WITH lights.  I mean I plan on switching the lights out eventually, but for now, seriously, they work brighter than the Sealed beams.

Just a quick update.

The Optima Red top is no more....it finally went. Bought a cheap ass shitty valuecraft for now. 1 year warranty, 5 year pro-rated after that.

Brakes have a problem.  Probably gonna replace the BMC and booster, cause im fairly sure thats the problem.  I cant tell where its leaking out at.

Car has sat most of the winter so far, doesnt really wanna start too well, have to crank it repeatedly before it finally fires on all cyls.  Probably the FPR or fuel pump. And yes, this is on new gas, I took it to a gas station and let it run almost out, then pumped new in and fired it up and let it run a bit.

Body damage has been smashed out with a sledge hammer for now, gonna probably find a junkyard mobile and hack out the parts I need and have em welded in.  body parts are low on the list for the time being though.  I'd rather get it mobile and moving again, so i can drive it and sell the metro.  Kinda considering getting the unibody seams re-welded together in the back for stability, and just leaving the damage, and using this as a track only kinda car. problem is we dont have tracks around here.

Sorry about the car man.
I know where you can get a cheap parts car 350 bucks. It's a ca18et turbo 5 speed It has been hit in the rear, But not as bad as yours. I'm pretty sure both rear quarter panels are good. It has power windows. It could be rebuilt I can give you his number if you pm me. It is near Springfield, MO.
