Warning For Ssac Manifold Upgrade

hey guys, My car is coming back from the shop with the new turbo upgrades and I think I should share some information with everybody.

If you're gonna use the SSAC manifold(or I'd suspect most of the other aftermarket tubular manifolds), you must reroute the wiring harness so it goes along the firewall and exits the the engine bay into the fender near the clutch master cylinder because the manifold is RIGHT under it.

The other option is to heat wrap the manifold(which you should do anyways cause of another issue that I will bring up next). The new SSAC manifold sits up MUCH higher(level with the valve covers) than the stock manifold, so it's right in your face.

Another issue is that is is centimeters away from the brake master cylinder and hardlines. You MUST wrap the manifold or else you WILL melt the BMC, or at the very least you WILL boil the fluid. It would also be a good idea to make some sort of heat shielding as well.

I'll get pics of how everything is early next week when I pick the car up...but when I went into the shop yesterday to check it out, I was very very concerned about the spacing that iw as unaware of...

on a side note...I'll let you guys know what a T28, SSAC manifold, and Megan turbo outlet feel like biggrin.gif

It's about time tongue.gif

Gonna dyno it?

Eww, don't wrap SS manifolds. The wrapping retains the heat, and causes them to crack.

A simple heatshield would suffice.

Looks I routed mine correctly for future mods then smile2.gif
I'm holding out for the "Bartco Top Mounty"
Can't wait to see some pics of yours though wink.gif

I heard that the SSAC/XS Power manifolds are inconsistant in their geometry. Like one will drop it more than another or one will place it further back than another etc.

Heat shield like on Nebuchernezzer's S13s? Except on these cars the shield isn't for the master cylinder cuz its on the other side.

Hooray for not needing heat protection!!

PM me regarding the CAS bracket if you're interested.

if you have probs with cracking ss mani's cause they are being wrapped then the ss being used is low quality and wayyyy to thin.....retaining the heat is a huge improvement in turbo mani effeciency

How about some info on your catch can set-up......did you remove the pcv valve completley?

Cheers, Bart. Will keep it in mind.

Keith, we had clearance issues with the 90deg fitting for the vacuum service line for the brake booster, as it fouled on the clutch master cylinder. So, we swapped that fitting with the PCV, which was then hollowed, and plugged.

The breather hoses run over to the stock windscreen washer bottle, which has been sealed up, and is used as the catch-can. I'm considering replacing it for a proper catch-can in the future. I am also in the middle of re-doing the baffles in the cam covers to stop oil in the head from filling up the catch-can, and emptying the sump.

So, no one is interested in the CAS brackets? lol.gif

Why.......you making/ selling them?

Nah, just trying to help a brother out.

The more brackets he sells, the more other cool CA18 shit he can put into production.
