Wiring Questions

Hi guys!

I'm doing wiring now, and have some questions:

1 - Where should I plug in the ignitor? It plugges into the main harness, not the S13 engine harness as I get so far. And what is this vacuum stuff on it? Do I need to plug it also?

2 - same stuff with the detonation/knock sensor: where shall I plug it? By the ECU wiring diagram it comes to #23, white wire... but my #23 wire is not white (everything else seems to be correct). Any ideas?

21 or 23? i dont remember, but i want to say 21 is the white knock sensor wire.

it goes from the ecu, through the harness and comes up by the fuse/relay block plugs. you then need to run a wire from the knock sensor to that wire. there is a sticky on nico for it.

are you using the det lower harness? if you have it, the knock sensor wire is in there and connects to the upper engine harness.

and the ingniter plugs into the engine harness.

the vacuum things (solenoids) on there are for the intake butterflies

Ok, I don't have the intake butterflies, so that vacuum things is not needed, right?
I'm using S12 lower harness. On the S13 lower harness the detonation sensor had some connector that is not fitting to the main engine harness - I think it goes to the onther body harness.

And one more thing - the ECU backup power, the red wire... I have 2 red wires in the S13 engine harness. It's said that I shall put 12V constant on it. On the one wire it takes no change if I put it, and on the other ECU powers on (both lamps is on). But I think it souldn't be working all the time, no? The ECU relay is working fine - when I turn the key the ECU get's power. So, that is that backup power for?

the knock sensor wiring is in the upper engine harness, and the lower engine harness. not the body harness.

trace the wire from pin 21 or 23, which ever it is, to the other end of the harness, the 2 plugs by the fuse relay box. again, i forget which of the 2 plugs it is.

if you have a meter, use it to find the wire, by hooking up the ohm meter to beep when you find it.

now take the knock sensor wire out from teh lower s13 harness, and connect it to the right pin on the upper harness. you can remove the knock sensor wire from teh lower s13 harness and attach it to the lower s12 harness.

I can't attach it to the lower S12 harness because originally the knock sensor plugs into the upper harness. Lower S12 harness has nothing to do with the detonation sensor.

By the red wire I mean what Keith wrote here: http://www.club-s12.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=18247
"ECU back-up power - Wire the red wire from the s13 harness to a 12v constant on "fused" power source" - I have 2 red wires (simply red, with no marks), and when I give +12V on one of them the ECU turns on, so it will be ON forever. I think it's not right.
And I still need to know about the Ignitor... How shall I wire it? It wires to the other harness and only then connects to the engine harness. Where should I plug it?

Oh, and BTW, even with not connected tachometer, temp. sens and everything under the gauges cluster the car will start anyway, right? just those gauges won't work?

P.S.: I understand every word you writing - I wached too many "cartoon network" channel when I was a kid, so english is not a problem for me now. I maybe spell something wrong, but it is harder to write than to read. smile.gif

I have taken all the wiring from the main harness related to the ignitor and just plugged it to the engine harness. Everything seems fine so far, just need to ajust the crank angle sensor now. Gone reading S13 manual. smile.gif

Oh, and still need to wire the knock sensor and the gauges.

P.S.: NEED HELP ON THE CAS (crank angle sensor) installation! The manual says "put some marks and get everything back together with them". It happens that I don't have any marks. Can someone tell me how to put crank angle sensor right???

um, both sides of the igniter plug into the engine harness.

and for the cas, i cant realy say, usually you mark thing like that just before you take them apart, so you put them back in the same way.

i will say which ever way you do it, be carefull, it is easy to snap off the little keyway inside. notch, nub whatever you want to tcall it.

The igniter is not plugged into the main engine harness. The wires from it comes to the three plugs, connecting the main engine harness and other harness. I cut it from the rest of the S13 harness and plugged into the engine harness, so that is ok already.

I can't figure out how to install the CAS. It has two marks in the body of it and none on the shaft. Manual says only about the marks, that was made when uninstalling... sad.gif
