I have my CA18DET installed and the wiring is complete except I do not have a dropping resistor. I read somewhere that you can use one from a 1990 talon awd turbo. However I can't find the instructions/modifications required to do so. Does anyone have any info that could help me out. I did some searching, and I'll continue to search, but perhaps one of you more knowledgeable guys could help me out.
Thanks a lot
Ca18det Dropping Resistor
Awesome,
I just found that thread while I was searching. Where is the Dropping Resistor located in the 1990 Eagle Talon Engine Bay? I'll try and find one at a wreckers since everyone wants around $100 for them which seems like a lot to me.
Thanks
The DSM resistor pack is found on the middle of the firewall. They come in only the turbo models, since the N/A ones use a different set of injectors.
Cool man,
The handy thing is that I also have a 1990 Eagle Talon Tsi AWD, so I can check where it is on that before heading to the wreckers.
Thanks
If you have trouble finding the DSM one I have one from a pulsar SE. Its the same thing. Shipping rates are going up cuz of fuel but we can still cut a deal.
Pulsar SE is that the 1.6L or the 1.8L?
I saw pulsars and talons in the junkyards around here.
Which one would work the best?
Also, what are all the cars that have this dropping resistor?
Thanks

You need one from a pulsar 1.6.....the 1.8 drop resistor won't work.
I bought a new one from Nissan for a 1.6 Pulsar for like $45. Works perfectly

thats some good info to know right there. i have two from 1.6s and i almost left them both there cuz I wasn't sure it would even work, lol. I wonder why the 1.8 is the one thats no good.
I have one from a Plymouth Laser (Eclipse/Talon) in there right now and it seems to work just fine. Funny thing is the guy from the junkyard didn't know what it was so he only charged me $10....hooray I saved money on one thing....
Anyone got pictures of their intake setup?

ca18de has the opposite impedance injectors as the ca18det. ca16 has the same as the ca18det....I forget if we have high or low wacko.gif I think it's low impedance
you guys are lucky, all of the yards i went to around here that had turbo dsms had been completely stripped of anything useful, including the dropping resistor. I ended up getting a 18det one from hillkill tho.
i have a ca18de resistor on mine, and it works fine...now im wondering if this is the cause of my richness...but i dont think it would be...someone clue me into the effects of running the wrong resistor, and what it would do

not sure.....I got the info on Nico that a 18de resistor wouldn't work.....so I dunno. They said to use a ca16 resistor, which I did, and works perfectly. Better than the original 18det one. No more cold cranking problems....fires right up, and purrs like a kitty

HUH...well actually on initial start up i do have to rev it once or twice because itll bog if i dont...i dont know if thats my real problem because im running the 18et maf, and i havnt hooked up my safc yet...cause ive still been adjusting timing, and i just installed a garrett gt28r on it...sooo i was thinking the maf was causing the weirdness and the richness...but ill havta order in a ca16de resistor...EDIT...i just looked up the part number...theyre the same...22698-R2000
