Power Steering DELETE for KA24DE

I found this on another site, so I'm reproducing the information here, in case the other site ever goes down, or the image links break over time.

-----------------

This is for those installing an S14 KA24DE in their S12, but don't want the power steering.

Here is a quick modification that makes it possible to remove the power steering pump and still have a functioning belt to spin your water pump.

Slap a 12v KA water pump pulley on and use the belt (part number shown). As you tighten the pulley bolts, it pulls the belt tight. Nice clean way to solve the problem:

Does this Work for the s13 Also?? Or is there a different method?

umm.. I'm not sure how this works but it looks like your missing the alternator how would that even be possible?

rageSep 10, 2008, 12:11 am · #5

the alternator has its own belt, so does the a/c
the p/s and water pump are the only things shared on a KA24DE

the KA24E's have the p/s where the alternator is and vise versa iirc

ahh thank you for that info

alt and a/c are on the same place on s13 e, s13 de, and s14 de.

on the e, the p/s pump is on the intake side.

when the de came out with the swoopy doopy intake manifold, the p/s pump got put on the exhaust side.

This same mod will work on a fwd sr20.  It might be the same on the rwd sr also.

seishukuSep 10, 2008, 8:50 pm · #9

RWD SR doesn't need it, the PS pump is by it self. So is the AC compressor, Alt and water pump is the only shared belt.

I have been doing some research on ps deletes as of late...when I bought my car with the engine already swapped in the po had made a bracket and pulley set up for where the ps pump was. It sounds to me like it has been making noise...and getting a bit louder. Anyways, I am thinking about going this route since it seems to have everything needed...

The way I did mine was stupidly simple, but doesn't free up space.

I took the ps pump off, opened it, removed all the internal component except the shaft. Used some bolts and jbweld to plug the lower hole, filled the pump with engine oil, capped the top of it.

So mainly the pump is now an empty casing that is used as a tentioner.. been like that for more than a year now and no problem whatsoever.

Same for the VG30E  IIRC.

is there a simple way without using ka24e parts, or i have to weld some brackets? im from europe and ka24 parts are rare. also drifting without p/s, how is it ?

Glad I came across this. As another mentioned my KA swap is set up with the gutted power steering pump and is now just a pulley. I still want to remove it to clean up space. I think the removing the pump all together will look better and drop some weight.

Does the DOHC crank pulley only have 2 belt journals? or is it 3 like the SOHC?  I am not using my outermost journal and I would like to pick up the DOHC crank pulley if that is the case.

Infinimax96Mar 24, 2013, 6:20 pm · #16

I'm pretty sure it has 3. The AC compressor runs separate on the 3rd one. Essentially it has 1 belt for the alternator to the crank, 1 from the crank to AC and 1 from the crank to water pump to power steering.

Maroon8Mar 24, 2013, 8:31 pm · #17

I figured out the secret. The 3rd pulley just bolts to the other two, since i am going without a/c i just unbolted and removed the a/c pulley.
