I was wondering since my 200sx is auto and I still need to scource parts and if it really is worth the hassle to go manual. I am going KA and was wondering what I can do to build the Autotrans from the CA20. I can swap bellhousings from my CA to the CA20 auto tranny right? please let me know. I dont mind going the manual tranny route since I have my KA tranny here still, scourcing the parts will be my problem.

*used* Lsd's???
Glen/Lister down in Aus is running an Auto RB25 in his Gazelle with a reflashed ECU. It is mainly for drag, but he built it more on the concept of the old school American Muscle.
I wonder if the RB25 tranny will mate with the KA block
I believe it could... but I havent checked the a RB25 tranny to a KA. I know it's more probable with a RB20 tranny. As far as a tranny swap and such, you would need the correct bell housing. But the RB25 tranny would be huge and not worth it honestly. They are 1k or so. Easy enough to get a KA tranny. I was just saying that yes others have kept an auto setup on their built car and such. A RB20 tranny isnt too much... 2-300 or so if you felt like you had the need.
Well if I go manual transmission I am using my KA tranny, if I keep auto, then I will either use the CA20 tranny if it can hold up the torque demands I will be pushing out of my built KA or Ill prolly just get a RB20 Auto tranny
1887 200SX?
lol 1987 lol error
Repping old school with the 1887!
ok profile fixed. so what all do I need to do to the ca20 auto tranny if I were to use it with a modded KA? I don't know much about AUTO tranny's. I want to Drag this car occasionally so thats why Auto is an option for me. If the Auto tranny is really weak then I will just use my KA transmission. or try and get an auto rb20 if that fits with the ka bellhousing swap. does anyone know if the ka bellhousing will swap to the auto CA bellhousing?
What kind of lsd's can i find for a r200 rear end??? oh and any ideas on where to find a R200 rear end? LOL
Junk yards for R200 diffs. Any lsd made for open diff r200's is what you''ll need for aftermarket, otherwise you have the z31 clsd option(for the price of these though I'd rather pick up a used aftermarket lsd for an open diff s13).
Please do a search, this question is asked a dozen times or more a year. Also you're new, but I usually delete topics just called "LSD?". It makes searching a bitch. I'll edit this one, because the discussion is really about used LSD's now.
Don't go with a junk yard diff, the clutch ones will almost certainly need a rebuild, and the viscous ones aren't rebuildable... and often when they go out, they just operate like an open diff, so you wouldn't know until it was too late. Never buy a used viscous diff.
Hell, never buy a used LSD, period.

so what are we supposed to do then??weld it?that will certainly fail sooner.and new ones are worth more than my car.
Actually a welded one won't fail. That's why they're popular. The only problem with a welded one is daily driving on streets, your turns are a squealing pain in the ass.
Buy a new LSD. Or you can weld your diff and deal with the squeal.
You have a Mark II... I am not sure if the bellhousing for a KA automatic will work. Whatever transmission you use, you'll be using a bellhousing for a KA to connect to a KA engine. I know that in the *manual* trans cars, the S12 Mark II "C" trans can share bellhousings with the S13 trans (meaning the KA bellhousing can be swapped over), but I don't know about the automatic trans in the S12 vs. the S13.
Either way, the CA20E auto trans itself is a poor choice. If I were you, I would go with an S13 auto trans, and do whatever beefing up that is normally done to S13 and S14 automatic transmissions. I would think you would use the S13 front automatic trans driveshaft section paired with the S12 rear driveshaft section, and that would work.
You'll probably need to ask people on nico or other S13/S14 forums how well their automatic transmissions hold up.
But I wouldn't expect to use the CA20E auto trans for serious power. You'll get farther with the manual transmission for an S12 than you would probably with the automatic.
what about welding a used diff??
Shouldn't be a big deal. He was asking about used *limited slip* diffs. Welding an LSD is a total waste, when all you get is what you'd get welding a non-LSD unit. And viscous are sealed, you can't weld one.
vicus is lame.
Weld It!
If you were planning on running auto, get the KA auto transmission. They are cheap and plentiful as S13/S14 guys do not want them. Also, look into Level 10 to rebuild the auto trans. I've heard a lot of good things about them in the maxima community, as well as on nicoclub for auto transmissions and transaxles. Like always, do your research before doing anything.
Sorry for not searching but thanx anyways. Welding sounds like a good idea. Did R200's all come with lsd's? I think I have a R180 because my car has a CA20E right? So I would have to find a R200 outta a junk yard then buy a new LSD is that what your saying?
nismologistvicus is lame.
I am so sick of hearing this badly derived drivel pass from forum to forum. There is absolutely nothing wrong with viscous for a daily driver, or even fast paced back road driving.

If it came with the car, sure. But used? No way. Dan, it's not about how it performs. It's mild, but still effective. Most people criticize them because used, you can't rebuild them. And why would you want to buy something new that you can't rebuild, when you can get a Nismo clutch-type that *is* rebuildable?
The concerns about VLSD's have to do with practical spending, not performance.
I've bought several used vlsd units and they all work perfectly fine for me for my s13s. Where is all this bad talk coming from about vlsd's anyway? The people that are actually bad talking about it, have they had any experiences with them or are they just saying what other people are telling them? What are their vlsd's being used for?

My point exactly, two close friends of mine own S13s with VLSDs (one in a stock super-hicas model) and they are so much fun it should be illegal. Also, I aided swapping out the full drivetrain from a rolled 2001 subaru rally car with front and rear VLSDs into a '94 chassis. My 200 has an S13 pumpkin with a J30 VLSD in it as well.
I have also driven a BMW 325is with a quaife torsen diff, and an S13 with a tomei technical trax LSD. Were these two cars noticeably more agile, quick, etc? NO.
I will not argue that a viscous diff will hold up to colossal amounts of torque, and hard driving - that is simply not possible. I also do not know this 'power threshhold' as it were, but judging by the fact that I have been in cars bordering on 300bhp with a viscous LSD and doing fine I am going to make the REASONABLE ASSUMPTION that a viscous LSD will meet and exceed the requirements of about 97% of the members of CS12.
You may claim rebuildability as part of your argument, but what about the expensive special fluid clutch type diffs require? And as for rebuildability, I guarantee I could find a low KM J30 VLSD for the same price as a rebuild kit (these kits average between $200 and $300).

diff fluid with lsd additive isnt that costly, like ~50 bucks or you can do it cheaper with noname stuff.
i think people rag on vlsd's because they abuse their diffs(eg drifting) so they just cant hold up to the stress.
i did however see something on zilvia(is fucking retarded) about adding a shim or 2 in vlsd's to make them bite harder. i ono
oh look what i found

finally, the main problem i see with vlsd's in a s12, is how are you going to bolt them up? make hybrid axles? haha

That's the thing, vlsd's are perfect for daily driving and some track time during the weekends. Otherwise, it's not a race type lsd where you can thrash on indefinitely such as for drifting where the 1.5-2 clutch type lsd's can take it bent over dry.
People need to research what kind of diffs are good for its intended use and not rag on it outright just because a fan boy or two saw "lsd" in "vlsd" and thought it can be used for any automotive sport.
I look at it this way, if racing with a stock clutch will ruin it quickly just as if you were racing with a vlsd...both are stock units that can't take a lot of abuse constantly and consistently.
