Anyone Swapped A 3.54 R200 In Their S12?
You're talking a CA car....4.11.
isnt it 3.90?or is that tutbo models?
3.9 for the SE and 4.11 for the turbo and MKI.
Thanks Rage. I hit the 0 instead of a 9. I should know that anyway, I have a SE.
3.9 is what SE's have
I thought the Mk1 Turbo had the R200 with a different gear ratio than the CA20's R180...
From what I understand both the R180 and the R200 CA cars (USDM) are all 4.11. The only R200 that was different was the SE that came with the 3.90. I'm not sure what the H190 solid rear came with.
yes it is a ca car and thank u guy for the info im getting ready for a motor swap and im not sure with the rear end if i should keep the stock or go with the rear end the i have with the other engine
the rear ends are all pretty stout, so no worries there.
if you want a different ratio, then you can swap. that depends on preference and what you want to do with the car.
We all say that all 4cyl cars came with 4:11's regardless of CA20 or CA18, but I've heard of people reading the tags on the firewall of some 84 Turbos and it showing 3:90, but for simplicity, we usually just state the 4 cylinders have 4:11's, and V6's have 3:90.
The tag on the firewall has some code on it, where it says 'rear end' RBxx are R180's and RCxx are R200's. The xx is the gear ratio, in other words, RB41 would be the common R180 in a 4:11 gearset that came in all the IRS CA20 cars, and RC39 would be the R200 with the 3:90 ratio as found in the SE V6 cars.
84 CA20 non turbo cars ONLY had H190 solid axles, which have 3:90 gearsets. I'm not sure what the code on the firewall tag is that corresponds with this setup.
does anyone know if you can swap SA rear end gears with any better gearing?
HUH?
"84 CA20 non turbo cars ONLY had H190 solid axles, which have 3:90 gearsets. I'm not sure what the code on the firewall tag is that corresponds with this setup."
The codes for these are HC XX, And most Manuals run 3.70:1 and autos 3.90:1 for ca20e powered cars, this goes for Ausdm and JDM vehicles. There is a thread around showing what came with what on the aus12.org forum, but its easy to just read the tags on your car...As stated the last 2 numbers tell you the ratio...
i just checked my gear ratio and i have a 2.75 about. i only saw 2 full rotations and 3/4 to one full rotation of the wheel

well im building my 200sx with a 13b motor and trans but im not sure if i want to swap the rear end to or leave the stock rear end
Stock rearend should be strong enough, just weld it! My rear end has held up to the abuse i have put it through with drifting and havent had one problem

well do you think a fc rear end would be better for drifting then a welded stock rear end
Is the FC rear end a LSD?
yeah iirc turboII's have a clutch lsd
but just weld the stocker, i drift on a welded r180. its fine?
i dont know what kind of power youre going to be making though, i just have a stockish KA
I just got back from my trip to FL, roughly 1000 miles and got about 26mpg. Not bad considering that I'm cruising at 3600rpms going 75mph! I run a 3.54 r200 in my Z and am thinking that I'd like to do the same in the s12.
Has anyone done this swap? I'd like to know what I can expect as far as cruising rpms. I'm using the stock MkII C trans. Currently 4.11 in the back.
In my experience, turbo cars almost always go quicker in the 1/4 with lower gear ratios. It increases load keeping the turbo spooled and in boost longer. Besides traction is already a challenge with the power the KA-T is making. Wouldnt mind getting some better fuel economy to boot.
I would imagine there would be a calculator for this type of thing online, but I'm not sure where. Certainly would help tho, thats for sure!
btw, what car had the R200 with a 3.54??

mc has done the swap in his vg car
i wish i could find a 4.3 or 4.6 final drive for long noses
rage i wish i could find a 4.3 or 4.6 final drive for long noses
no 4x4 pathfinder?
Well i did all the calculations and right now with the 4.11 at a true 75mph I'm at 3441rpms. Switching to the 3.54 should get me down to 2964rpms. So thats decent.
caraudiofooleryno 4x4 pathfinder?arent those all shortnoses?
rage
arent those all shortnoses?
dunno, tossing it out there
I've got a 3.9 from an Infiniti J30 - tall as balls for the moment...

j30 is short nose too, we cant use the pinion
ok i have a solid axle s12 with h190 diff. i am trying to remove it so i can weld it. but i ran into a few problems. i got the passenger side axle off easy but when i used the same thing on the drivers side the axle wont pull out. im thinking use a slide hammer but i was wondering if there was a clip i am missing inside. idk also when i get the other axle out the diff is as simple as removing the nuts off the diff in the front and it should come out right? i need answers asap. thanks
starting I dont want more than 250hp but when I'm done I want close to 400hp
