wonderin if anyone has the specs to get a one piece shaft made.

thought it would be good to have a reference on here in case someone else wanted to get one made as well.

i tried to measure and what i got was 39.5 inches. from the trans to the mounting plate of the rear diff. does this sound correct?

i have a ca18det with a ca18det trans (c trans) in a mkII.

any help would be appreciated

It's gonna vary slightly depending on which trans or diff you have.
Your best bet is to just measure what you have and give that info to the shop you are working with.

sinestroApr 7, 2009, 12:18 pm · #3

it will also mater how the shop wants you to take the measurements, the driveshaft shop for instance wants it done like this, http://www.driveshaftshop.com/howtomeasure.php, this is what i'm trying to get done, and although i have my motor and trans in for good this time, the weather won't cooperate again it's ither raining every day or theres snow like today, and my swap consists of a s12 c-style trans, that was bellhouse swaped so it can fit on a ka24de, and all of this sits in a 88' se where the vg once sat, so my measures will be diffrent probaly

..i was under the car checking my center two piece driveshaft...it has alot of up and down play within the center cage/mount...normal,yes/no??

seishukuApr 7, 2009, 1:21 pm · #5

There's normally some play, as long as it doesn't clunk around.

I'd say your carrier bearing has most likely taken a dump MC. You can replace it without replacing the driveshaft. Just MAKE SURE to mark the two halves before you separate them so they will stay in balance when you put it back together. You should do the same with the rear of the shaft as well before you remove it from the diff.

Go with Luk, works great in my V6 car.  Available at autozone for sure, and probably other local parts shops.

ok thanks I'm looking for a clutch that'll last me a while until I can do the motor swap so I'm not looking for anything in spectacular do you guys know what the break in period of a clutch is? does it vary between brands?

when i do a clutch at work i try to recommend 500 miles. but ive found 100 miles will usually suffice.
Jsvob03Apr 8, 2009, 9:23 pm · #13

iirc Luk recommends 200 miles. Luk is a great brand.

beck/arnley makes good brake parts, so i presume their clutch stuff is good too.
never heard of Sachs.

and ac/delco. weird. never knew they made clutches (or maybe they're re-branding.)

cool thanks guys for the info so anywhere between 200-500 miles is there a rev limit? I usually shift between 4-4.5K so am I going to have to tone it down for a little bit?

yup anything over 3 grand is considered a no-no. but then again if you go on the freeway your gonna go over 3 grand so just dont beat on it. no drifting, clutch kicks that kind of stuff.

I have had the Exedy OEM one and it grabbed really good and was great to drive with. Now I have the XTD Stage 3 puck and for the price and how good it works, it is not bad.

+1 for LUK.

I put one in my daily/drifter, and it put up with 50,000klms of abuse. best bit was it only cost me $90AUD.

I've since used Exedy OEMs, and I found the pressure plate to be too soft, and had no feeling in them. I'm going back to a CA18DET-spec LUK in my built CA18DE circuit car.

from what people as auto parts tell me 500 miles and within that time you can't abuse the clutc, meaning no 5k clutch drops, no powershifting, or shifting without the clutch. etc they also said the best way to break it in is in stop and go traffic. well at least thats what they said, not sure if it'll help
