A Few Drivetrain Questions

Just a couple questions for later on down the road. I plan on doing an SR swap and most of the time they can be had with the tranny. Ive also read that the KA tranny can be bolted up to these motors as well. My question for that is which is stronger/easier to get fitted onto the chassis itself?

My second question has to do with the rear end. Since i plan on pushing a modest ~300 through the motor (which i realise is about ~200 more than our cars originally had) what setup do you guys think i should run? I realize im gonna need a LSD of some sort i just wanted your input on a quality brand other than quaife cuz i dont wanna spend that much green unless i absolutely have to.

for the tranny fitment, both transmission will be the same. You will need a custom tranny mount and a front half driveshaft from an S13.

As for the drivetrain you are in the same boat than me, R180..

You can find a R200 differential from a turbo S12, V6 S12 or a Z31 and then get an lsd meant for an open S13 differential, get a late turbo Z31 lsd differential.

Or go ghetto with a welded diff!

I think Quaife do a helical diff for our R180 tho, but if you are building the car for drifting it is not the best choice

Na this wont see any hard core drifting...just the ocational tire roasting. Not to mention i want it as streetable as possible so welding it is out of the question.

So if im understanding you correctly, get an r200 out of either of those 3 cars and then get an LSD for an s13 to put in it. Or source out a late model z31 turbo diff that already has a LSD in it. If im wrong please correct me lol.

For the tranny mount, can one from another car be used or is it in the complete wrong location? and are the 2 trannys the same length when they're attatched to the SR? Just wondering if i need a custom one made to fit. Thanks alot for the help!

the transmissions are the same; but i think theres slight differences in the bellhousings.

the SR has a shorter 5th gear, so the RPMs are lower in 5th or something like that

if you get it w the SR there is no reason to switch it out

trans mount can work depending if the car was originally manual

if not

you probably have to make one
