i know the actual whole setup wont fit, but if i snag an open diff from the yard, can i take the guts out and put them in my s12 diff? cause mine is welded but it was welded by the previous owner and he was a fuckin ratard so i dont trust it.

S13 Open Diff Fit?
Deezusi know the actual whole setup wont fit, but if i snag an open diff from the yard, can i take the guts out and put them in my s12 diff? cause mine is welded but it was welded by the previous owner and he was a fuckin ratard so i dont trust it.
Only if it's an r200
Which only came in the SE's
My advice? Take off the rear plate. Weld it better.
Or ask my If I'll sell my 100% useless to me R180 (I have a solid axle)
all 240sx's had r200's...
ohhh yeah, a turbo r200 wouldnt have the correct ring gear bolt size
rageall 240sx's had r200's...

yup. S12s Had the r180
except the SE, which has the long nose? R200
and yes, all 240's had the r200.
Suppose I could have been more clear. My bad
i want a stronger diff fuck this h165 shit
if i break this diff. im saying fuck it and getting a new shell with irs and r180
Jayyup. S12s Had the r180well only XE's had the r180's. turbos still have r200's, but would be unsuitable for him because he couldn't transfer over his ring gear to work with the short nosed pinion

AND DAVID: get a older supra rear end or something, even a ford 8.8 would be better than IRS s12! hahaha

i looked at the supra rear ends on a corolla... the bottom link, measured 19 inches on my s12, and 19 on the corolla. its very possible
is it that hard to swap a s12 irs rear end onto a s12 solid axle shell?
everything will have to be fabricated, at which point you might aswell put any other IRS in the rear
i figured it was either a bolt in, or a complete pain in the ass...

If I pop mine, I'm going ford 8 inch. cheap, strong, different ratios available, easy to adapt to our 4 link.

Shit! I forgot about the turbos!
so what you guys are saying is i cant?
You can take the diff out of an S13 R200 and put it in a S12 R200 case. You can't use the gears out of the S13 in the S12 housing though, you'll have to use your gears.
There's a point, like mid '86 I think, that Nissan jumped to larger bolts in the ring gear in the R200s. The bolt pattern is the same, just the bolt holes are larger. This is the case with my car. I have an '84 R200 case, with '84 4.11 gears, with a Z32 VLSD diff.
Richmond gear said that I could assemble it and it wouldn't matter, Somthing like; "it's the clamping force of the bolt that holds the ring in place. Not the shank of the bolt vertically" he said. I only semi belived him, so had my local machine shop make spacers to fill the larger bolt hole of the Z32 diff. Being as machinists take forever, I assembled it without the spacers, I have them, but haven't bothered to install them yet. It's been a few years(I'm lazy), and as far as I know, I'm not slipping the ring gear on the diff with the smaller bolts.
I think some times about going back to the R180, If I could find a clutch type for it. Subbie WRX guys are putting alot of power through them, and with the lower weight, I think my car will be a little faster. I see R200 clutches on E-bay for a few hundred now though to, I think about those also.
David , s12 4 link diffs were H190's not H165's, which are bigger than an R180!

His H190 committed hari kari, so he used the H165 bits he had laying around out of necessity
Deezus, if your S12 was originally a turbo or v6 s12, with the long nose r200, then yes you can. Depending on your ring gear bolt size(m10 or m12), you might need a spacer/sleeve for the bolts.
Edit: You would also need to reshim the diff for backlash and whatnot.
can someone explain, what makes it a 190.. or 180. or 165
the s110 diff and axles seem the same.. all looked the same

Diameter of the ring gear. r200 is 200mm in diameter, h190 is 190mm, etc, etc.
