Ok so I've read a bit about how peoples wired up their tachometer with their S13 distributor to make it work with the stock S12 tach.
Mainly I've found this in this forum (picture from David cool
According to the ka24de swap sticky on the forum, the tach signal should be wired up to the blue/white wire in the wire nest under the air filter.
On the S13 distributor, they use the 12V+ signal that goes to the coil.
Since the S14 got a internal coil with a two wire connector for it, the two wires being:
1:a BLACK/RED wire that is the 12V+ for the coil
2. a LIGHT GREEN/BLACK wire that is listed as the ''IGN CK FROM ECU PIN #2'' <--what the heck mean the CK? ChecK?
here is where i found the wiring info:
http://jimwolftechnology.com/wolfpdf/DISTR...0TRANSISTER.PDF
so all you need to do is to wire the BLACK/RED wire to the BLUE/WHITE wire under the air filter and call it a day? sound too easy to me considering everybody that have given up trying to get the tach to work!
or i'm missing something lol.
*EDIT* did a bit more reading and it appear that i want the negative wire off the coil to be wired up to the BLUE/WHITE wire... Is there a negative wire for the coil on a S14 distributor or I think I've read I have to tap something in the tach... how do you do that exactly?
*2ND EDIT* Ok so the LIGHT GREEN/BLACK wire on the coil connector would be the negative side and the power trans output signal.. so that's the one I am looking for? And a bit of more reading told me that I should look for a LIGHT GREEN wire behind the gauge console. .. and this is it?
*3RD EDIT* lol funny how I use my own thread to write note to myself at the same time...nvm if you feel like i'm talking to myself!

S14 Distributor And Tach Signal
Just to add that I wired up the tachometer today and it work wonderfull!
Light green/black from the distributor wired into the light green wire of the tachometer!
awesome man! So your car is 100% swapped and up and running now?
sam31183awesome man! So your car is 100% swapped and up and running now?
Sorry for the late response but yeah. I have fully completed KA24DE swap. The whole original dash is working, so does the heater core... with about 1500km on it so far and no problem!
The only thing is that I'm now running an external water temperature gauge since the one in my dash have been reading low since I got the car.
my car normally runs like 1/4 unless its hot or i am autoxing and it runs at 1/2. I guess jays ka runs up to about 3/4 before he turns his fan on because its hooked up to a switch.

My gauge was running exactly just like yours. And I knew overheating was just before the middle... I just wanted a precise reading. I hate guessing things like engine temperature and engine oil pressure... its the kind of crucial thing that make you learn the harsh way.
i am not overheating though...everyone else i have talked to has the gauge read the same...its weird that it runs so low most of the time though. I have driven the car for like 2 hours straight at half temp while being inland some during the summer...the closer i got to the ocean the more the temp went down. The guy i bought the car from lived in eastern washington where it is almost always hot and he didnt even have the gauge wired up and just drove it around town with no problems. I check my fluids though almost constantly.

That's weird that the temperature was changing as you were getting closer to the ocean because the thermostat should keep the temperature constant.. or maybe the thermostat was stuck open?
Anyway I just have the recomfort that I have a precise reading of the temperature of my engine now!
as i was heading inland the outside temperature was changing drastically...also it was getting later in the day so it was cooling down as i was heading to the coast. I want to change the water pump/t stat/hoses/clamps out eventually...but like i said it only gets to like half temp if its super hot out or if i am autoxing the car. Even if I am beating on the car doing some canyon carving the temp doesnt get up too high.
sooo you ran a wire from the light green wire on the back of your tach to the negative wire on your coil? I did this and my tach doesnt work....

This is the negative signal for the coil!

Mine works A-OK with the KA sensor. Proven by the fact of when it's just under 3/4 high on the gauge, the automatic fans kick in and cool it down.

Well lucky you but mine was deffective since I got the car.
But now I can say: I got a solid 180degrees on the engine when you'll say.. I got a solid 3/4 gauge temp on the engine.
haha kiddin as long we can have a reading that prevent us from warping head and blow headgasket!

I can say I have a solid 180 too.
But I'd be guessing.
When it comes to the temp, I run in normal, which I'm fairly sure has temp markings. That's all I really need to know for now. We're both on the same page, KA's are funsauce.
