my car has been sitting for a year or so. I had to put a new crank pully on it becasue it came loose and chewed up the pully. After resetting the timing and checking the fire order (1-2-3-4.. front to rear is what i found online) I set it to TDC and I  got it started... It ran fine for a few mins but after it warmed up it went into a "limp" mode and wouldnt rev over 3,000rpms. I double.. triple and.. rechecked timing again, I made sure the cooling system didnt have any air in it by jacking up the front and filling it with coolent. When I jacked up the front a good amount of air came out of the system. So i think i got it all out... Now.. Since the last start up its in that "limp" mode from start up. It idles great but just wont rev up!! WHAT IS NEXT??? IM PULLING MY HAIR OUT HERE!!!

I saw some threads in regard to the car stuuering at 4,000rpm but it doesnt seem to fit my situation.

HELP PLEASE!!!! I want my notch back!!!

I'll go and try swapping them out. Would that let me know?

Yes.  If that doesn't work check your MAF.

awesome be back in a bit!

swapped the coils and it did the same thing. Im looking for my volt meter to check the MAF. However, when I stomp down the gas the engine tries to die... This is the first time I tried stomping the gas. Could that narrow down the problem any?

CHECK inside of cap and rotor as well as the power transistors for the coils those are two overlooked items and sometimes are the culprit

Coolant temp? Ignition timing?

MaxpowAug 13, 2010, 4:08 am · #13

Me and SlickS12 had this problem the other day with his S12. Went to LA to fix it with him, it ended up being the inside of the cap and rotor that was fucked up not allowing his car to rev over 4k rpm, it would do the same govenor thing. Just check all your lines, sensors, clean everything, make sure you have spark, make sure you have fuel, and go from there.

I just got back in town today from the mountains and I Pulled the dist cap and it was nasty. I have cleaned evrything up and got new plugs and wires. I am about to but I all in but I was wondering which coil goes to intake/ exhaust?

mod_mastazCoolant temp? Ignition timing?
Coolant temp is fine and I'm about to redo the ignition timing. I just checked the crank timing and it was dead on.

The spark? or the plug itself?

did you ever check the maf?
CurlytoprobAug 29, 2010, 7:29 pm · #18

I havent checked the MAf yet.. How would I do it?

CurlytoprobAug 29, 2010, 8:40 pm · #19

I dont know how to check it with a voltage meter. I dont know what im looking for with it. When I unplug it the engine acts the same as when its plugged in. Im no pro but I think this should make a difference... I will post a link with a video of what its doing.

Colonel GustardAug 29, 2010, 8:59 pm · #20

im pretty sure if you unplug your MAF while the car is running it should shut off. if its acting the same whe nthe MAF is unplugged then you sir have a faulty MAF

Georgia_boyAug 30, 2010, 12:35 am · #21

I had the same prob with a 2000 sentra at my shop the other day. It was the MAF being faulty.
It had the EXACT same symptoms you are describing.

Probably not. The harness pinouts will be different if I remember correctly. Also, there are provisions on the Mark II cars that are not on the Mark I cars.
