Hey all,
I'm new to the forum my name is Ryan. I've been reading this forums for about 4-5 months now watching all the project cars being built and such.

I had a question regarding my 200sx. For the past 4-5 weeks the car has been smeeling really bad inside the cabin(gas). Originally I thought this was a problem with the evap system with the charcoal filter not working correctly. After some research it seems it might be the filler neck or fuel pump gasket/seal. I was driving to work this morning boarding the on ramp to the high way and my car just shut off. I had about 10.00 worth of gas in the tank so I was thinking possibly the fuel slooshed around the tank and starved the pump for about 2-3 seconds and caused the car to die. I pulled over on the side of the highway. Turned the ACC on and let it sit there for a second hoping it would prime the system. I tried to turn the car over and nothing was just a continuous crank and didnt sound like it was even trying to turn over. So then I check my fuse for the pump and that was fine. Did a quick glance at the engine bay and all seemed ok. At this point I got a picked up for a ride to work and now the car is sitting at home. Any suggestions ? Sorry if the grammer is alittle off had to do a quick write up as im at work.
**EDIT**
Was just reading a couple threads regarding the similar issue's, I did rplace the battery this weekend could I have knocked something loose in that area possible a relay?

Thanks for all the help in advance!

Pull the fuel filter, run the flex line into a jerry can, turn ignition on and check if fuel exits the flex line. Perhaps replace the fuel pump, and ideally you would check fuel pressure as well. A smell of gas is either a leaking line somewhere or the o-ring seal on the tank inspection hole failing (which is common).

Sounds good, this is one of the things I was going to test tonight. Ill let you guys know thanks! Is there a cheaper option for a fuel pump auto zone is asking close to 300 for this thing. Maybe go walbro for 100.00?

If your keeping the stock engine, a walbro 190lph will be plenty.. got mine for around $80.. Be sure yours comes with the damn filter..

I had to order the pickup filter seperetly.. and trust me, those puppies are not easy to find.

Are you able to utilize the stock water pump mount/housing with the walbro?

Fuel pump is located in your trunk, under the carpet, and decends into your gas tank.. the water pump is located on the engine, drivin by the belts..

So to answer your question, yes.. because they have nothing to do with eachother.

Check the wires that attach on the top plate of the fuel sender before you go and buy a new pump. VERY common issue with these things.

Sorry I ment fuel pump. I was doing like 10 things at once. So this weekend I took a look at the car and I found the culprit. It was right by the battery the Wire harness grounded out by hitting something that was exposed. This caused alot of heat to run through-out the wires and melted about 5-6 inch of insulation coming off the postive terminal. I have replaced it (cut out all the melting wires and replaced everything with the correct Awg wire and used crimps for conections, followed by heatshrink and wire loom.

I'm still having the same issue with the fuel pump coming on. I have checked all fuses, and tested the fuse box to see if it was gettin power to the fuel pump fuse.Which it is.

My question is; does any one have a wire diagram from All data or something along the lines.
I saw a simple paint mock up when searching these forums. Im looking for something a little bit more detailed with trouble shooting proceedures.

Edit 9/8/10: Decided to do a quick check today before work. I measured the volts on the battery off the car it is 12v and with it on the car an terminals connected it's putting out 24v. So I'm guessing I have a ground loop. Could blowing the main fuse cause this?
