Hello Everyone I am the owner of 1985 200sx Xe non-turbo. I recently had the engine rebuilt and I am seeking help for adding boost to my accelration. When I press on the gas pedal the car accelrates fine but it seems like the air flow is being slightly restricted. After pressing the gas pedal for a few seconds it seems that whatever is blocking the air flow moves and then my car really accelrates, can anyone tell me what this might be. I have recently had the exhuast manifold gasket replaced, catalytic converter and some pipe work done. I also think i need an intake sensor but can't find one. Now the other problem is i have a digital cluster and my speedometer doesn't work but it lights up fine the oil temp and other things seem to work well but the speedometer and odometer are failing can anyone tell me if there is some sort of relay or sensor I need for this. Please help and give instructions or direct me to places I can call or go to in order to get this fixed. I can do some of this work myself but I would need detailed instructions. Thanks for the help and advice.

sluggish acceleration??? timing to retarded i dunno we'd have to look at it. then again dude its a ca20 theyre not that quick to begin with usual once they get going theyre fine but theyre shit for acceleration. i mean did u notice the problem after they did the work or has it been like that since u owned the car?

and what intake sensor do u speak of post pics if ur unsure what it is so i can attempt to help

Well my car before the rebuilt was driving really sluggish but right now I just got it back a week ago after the rebuild and for sure it drives alot better but maybe I don't know what I'm taliking about. The intake sensor again I'm a novice so maybe this doesn't even exist but I have sensor light on my dash and i have had lots of work done to my car in the last year and a half. I have a new raditor, exhaust gasket and o2 replacement, manifold is original, rebuilt CA20E some electrical work done, hid lighting conversion, new catalytic converter, new rack and pinnion, new plugs, fuel injectors, new clutch, new parking brake cable and a few other small things like brake pads, tires and aftermarket sterro. I just think my car could run just a little better but for sure it has be very fuel efficient especially since I'm using 87 gas in an 85 car but I feel that on accelration i could have a little bit more potential then what my car is putting out right now. Thanks for the advice and if I have any more questions I will ask.

run 91 octane and advance your timing a bit and u feel a bit more pep outta the ca 20. just loosen the nuts holding the distrubtor and turn it to the right to advance the spark. it will feel alot better. as far as the sensor light it just comes on every 45,000 to remind you to get your car serviced or replace the 02 sensor its nothing to worry about. there is a box under the dash with a button u press that and it resets the light actually u can just remove the bulb that warning lamp serves no purpose. hope that helps

edit: any more q's just pm me or post up.  lol my car was the same color is yours! is ur car a hatch or notch  where in cali r u @?

if that "boost" you describe starts at almost 3k rpm... id say thats because the torque curve is on its way up... i have no bottom end idle to 2700 or so is lacking... at 3k it pics up and youve started the decline at around 5.45k

also is your ac on? i have even less low end with it robing 10hp from my already wimpy 93.

but if it is a time delay... TPS might be wonky? idk thats where all my engine issues have been...a screw backed out a bit and the tps shifted causing a lumpy idle stalling sputtering, slow accel til 4k exct

i know that the ae86 uses a watts linkage, and doesnt have the same setup in the rear as our cars, but were all at a loss for exhaust systems, so i figured it would be worth a shot.

the ra65 usdm celica uses the same rear setup as our cars, i mean its practically identical. but afaik the only aftermarket exhaust for that car is from pacesetter  grumpy

heres an rsr gt-2 system, and as you can see it has the lil hump that our cars would need, unlike the s13 exhaust which goes under. so i would assume that most of them are all made the same for the 86, so that would mean of course you could just buy the cheapest freakin ebay exhaust u could find and it would be great, if it worked.

Nowhere near strong enough of an angle to get over the axle. I think mine had to be at 80 degrees from in front of the axle to get over it. and mine still bangs around once in a while.
Plus the return slope is too long... it would have to be bent more just in front of the muffler to get enough up angle to mount it.

This is assuming you have a SRA car. of course. That is meant to go between the linkage and the axle, as you mentioned.

Plus, I think mine angles in the opposite direction. towards the outside of the car.

I'm not saying it's not worth investigating. I don't see why that couldn't be modified in some way(s) to make it to work Tongue

I didn't know they had a Watts link, I thought they were just triangulated 4-links, like the SRA S12s.

Visit you local exhaust shop. They bent mine, 2.5", it's nice. Been on there several years. Can't remember what it cost though.

I'm actually getting information that they had both. but the wiki says 4 link.
