Madd/Erebuni kit reintroduction

As some of you know, me and a friend have been working for a while to get the Madd/Erebuni kit reproduced.

So far we have the front bumper and the rear bumper and I am currently dealing with Henge to get his sideskirt. Shipping of the sideskirt from his home to us will be expensive (around 420$(US)), but mainly we have found all bits of the kit, which I don't think have been achieved in a long while!

We have contacted Rick Design ( http://www.rickdesign.ca/Home.aspx ), a very reputable shop that build bodykit from scratch and do all kind of crazy custom stuff. He is willing to make molds from the kit. He said that building the molds will cost around 2000$(CAD), and then it will be 1100$(CAD) to make the kits. Please notice that this price does not include shipping and he is located near Montreal, QC. He also want a garantee that he will sell at least 3 kits, which I find very reasonable.

Here is a NSX he have customized, it's a good example of what the guy is able to do: http://www.burn-out.ca/content/tout-sur-lacura-nsx-de-rick-design

So I am writing this topic to gauge the interest of you guys. Please don't come here to say you want one but you are broken, I know it's probably out of reach for most of you. But with me and Kardey (the friend who's working on that) already make two kits. Also Henge showed some interest about getting a kit.

So I would like to know if any of you is in for the project, and have the funds to get a set of the kit. I am also thinking about raising some funds to help us to pay to get the molds done. If the admin are cool with the idea, I'll start a topic for a fund raise to get the kit available again. And will probably spread it to the other S12 community.

If you have any idea that could help us for this process, you are welcome to share them!

Bonus, pictures of the MADD/EREBUNI kit, for those who've never seen it:

I don't mind if you set up the fundraising thread.
But I'm not interested in the kit myself.

silvertonApr 13, 2011, 12:34 pm · #3

Would we have to pay for the mold? or is the "at least three buyers" so he makes some money off of it?

$1100 CAD for the kit, or $3100 CAD?

$420 USD to ship

Also, dunno how kosher people would be with this possible modification, but I think the skirts would look better without the slats at the back of the door.

sam31183Apr 13, 2011, 1:34 pm · #4

i love the front of the erebuni kit so much...i want to know how much usd it would cost for a kit shipped...

MaxpowApr 13, 2011, 1:37 pm · #5

Well CAD converts at a .98 rate. So pretty much what you see there.

sam31183Apr 13, 2011, 1:48 pm · #6

bleh...damn conversion rate...

newby200sxApr 13, 2011, 1:49 pm · #7

im very interested as soon as we get a price and quote of shipping, im jumping all over it, aslong as its a fair price

DjayS12Apr 13, 2011, 2:29 pm · #8

The 420$ fee of shipping is to get the sideskirt from Henge to our location, I asked him to check if he can get a cheaper quote with usps. I am still waiting for a reply from him. Sorry for the confusion there Silverton, I just corrected my first post so it's clear that it is NOT what shipping is going to cost. I would say the shipping of the whole kit is more than likely to be more expensive than that.

From what I have understood it would cost 2000$ to get the initial mold done and then it would be 1100$ per kit. Eric (owner of Rick Design) just want to make sure he will sell at least 3 kits so it's profitable to a minimum for him.

Shipping will be to check, but I can ensure you it will be expensive to ship it to texas. The kit will have to travel across the whole US from north to south. Those who are seriously interested, hit me up with your addresses and I'll check if I can get something accurate. We do not want to make profit on the kit, me and Kardey are just trying to get the kit to be reproduce and let the S12 community the opportunity to get this kit, which have been discontinued for years (at least 5 years, maybe 10?, or more?).

Also I'll doublecheck with Kardey, I think he want to have his own molds, so perhaps the 2000$ is what it will cost him to get the molds.

JayApr 13, 2011, 2:35 pm · #9

2000k to get molds made
1100 per kit
3 kits needed

So, a total of 5300(+tax?) to get the minimum run done. NOT including shipping. Sounds pretty cheap for what is all going down. But, once again. I'm not interested

David BApr 13, 2011, 3:23 pm · #10

id rather have a gp kit

DjayS12Apr 13, 2011, 4:29 pm · #11

Taxes, there will be taxed on the kit for sure, not sure about the mold since that part is going to be dealt within us and Eric.

as for which kit looks the best, its just a matter of tastes, I personally prefer the MADD kit, and yes Jay, the price Eric came out with sounded very reasonable to me.

Oh and BTW, if someone is really baller, he can make the kit in carbon fiber, but I doubt anyone here have the kind of money it would cost lol.

sam31183Apr 13, 2011, 5:08 pm · #12

looking at the back bumper and i realized i would have to have my muffler remounted to make the bumper work right...when i had my muffler put on he put it way off to the left and removed the rear tow hook on that side...it could still be done though, i would just have to lose my jdm tyte tilt yo! (minor inconvenience)

DjayS12Apr 14, 2011, 11:38 am · #13

Ok guys, some updates, Kardey is taking care of the 2000$ fee for the molds. So all you guys have to care about is the 1100$CAD + shipping to get the kit.

Also if we cannot get the sideskirts, he will make them from scratch, using pictures, for 1350$...I'm still waiting for update from Henge.

myth_S12Apr 14, 2011, 11:40 am · #14

i agree with sam. i only like the front of the kit.

Would be able to make my proposed modifcation of a smooth sideskirt ;)  This is starting to get tempting...

Also, just to keep things less confusing, I suggest to stop talking about how much the kit is costing the person to make.

myth_S12 on 11:40:00 AM / 14-Apr-11i agree with sam. i only like the front of the kit.

I don't think he said he didn't like the back...  I like the kit as a whole!

if the kit is to be sold i think there should be the option of buying the front and side skirts and bumper seperate that would be more convenient and alot more orders could be made seeing as mostof the people like different parts

Or you can buy the whole kit and part it out yourself later.

Curious, what is the material? $1100 for fiberglass or is that poly?
ArroApr 14, 2011, 4:18 pm · #18

1. I wouldn't want a visual reproduction, I would want a 1 for 1 identical reproduction. Work on Henge to get his ass in gear.

2. Shipping is the bitch. If it was 1100 shipped I'd be down. But it's gonna cost me almost as much as the kit to get it here to southern Cali :(

DjayS12Apr 14, 2011, 5:26 pm · #19

Ok big news. A good one and a bad one.

To start with the bad news, Kardey is out of the project, his spouse doesn't want him to throw money in this (damn wifes), so it's all on me now! Since I am student and have a bank account of roughly
-15,000$, I ''might'' need financial help.

and now the good news, since we pay the 2000$ to get the molds done, we do not need the 3 kits to be ordered. The bad thing with that is that once the first batch of kits will be sold, I'll be the owner of the molds. He is well aware that there is not much market with this kit and I believe he don't want the molds to collect dust in his shop after the first orders.

On a good note, I can ensure you that the molds will never be crushed like they've been (because I love you guys too much to do that ;) ) but the kits will be available FOR A LIMITED TIME! so if you want the kit, LET ME KNOW.

I'll give a call to Henge this weekend if I still have no news then. It's going to be hard for me to take care of everything right now because I'm working on an icebreaker until the end of august, but I'll do my best! And since I can't go directly to Eric, Kardey will still be the one bringing the kit to him so he can work his magic!

now I think the best way to get through this would be to tell the other forums about my plan. And then check how many seriously interested customers I can get. If there is enough interest, I believe the best way to pay for the molds would be to ask for a surcharge for the first few kits, maybe bumping the price up to 1500$ to help paying off the mold. I really doubt it is possible to raise more than 1000$ with all the S12 forums altogether through a fundraising thread..

So for now, the biggest obstacle is the money, since it's what rules this world. In the worse case scenario, we will still have the kit and will wait until we can afford the molding (so either if Kardey divorce or after I graduate and pay off my debt).

I'll ask for the material, I've been thinking fiberglass but I don't remember that being specified. As for the slot on the sideskirts, I want to reproduce the original kit, but filling these slot would only requires a bit of fiberglass, easy fix.

Will keep you guys on touch!

I have a bank account of 50 dollars....if i had 15,000, i wouldnt have 15,000.

fyneyoungstunnaApr 15, 2011, 10:17 am · #22

I dont know if i like the kit or not. once i decide ill let you know. It is good however, that we got some kind of style kit for the s12. Now we just need one that compliments the body, without all the exaggerated lines.

DjayS12Apr 15, 2011, 11:35 am · #23

Xano, I think you missed the - sign in front of my 15,000 lol.. little difference there. at least it's a student loan, the interest is very minimal.

I personally don't like the horizontal lines in the rear bumper and don't really like or dislike the sideskirt slots. I think shaving those off the kit will make it much more smooth.

zastabaApr 15, 2011, 12:40 pm · #24

It wouldn't be that hard to fill those sideskirt slots for those that didn't want them. Bottom line is it would be better to have at least one kit out there for our cars.

ArroApr 15, 2011, 1:05 pm · #25

... and it would be better to include the "gills" for the reasons zastaba just said. This kit isn't so much as just a style, it's a historic kit for this car, so allowing someone to buy it in original form is best, and then if they dont like it they can modify it themselves.

RLM_RSXApr 15, 2011, 1:14 pm · #26

imo the kit almost resembles mild boso style.  not really my thing.  its really cool you are bringing it back though

ArroApr 15, 2011, 1:26 pm · #27

this kit is the original design from back in the 80's when there was no boso style. If you look at exotics from the 80's, it fits right in.

RLM_RSXApr 15, 2011, 1:29 pm · #28

i didnt mean it was boso just that boso could easily have come from it with the lower valence jutting forward

ArroApr 15, 2011, 1:31 pm · #29

It would have to jutt forward another foot at least lol

Edit: boso actually originated from people exaggerating the race cars like the super silhouette...

Even a mention about boso. Look up "super silhouette" on Google images and see a bunch of cars like that.

I don't mind a little boso - like say this:

But this here is just a "bit" much lol:

Thankfully our kit is on the good side of boso where it's not ridiculous. Just adds a bit of 80's flare and flash to it.

DjayS12Apr 15, 2011, 5:22 pm · #31

Totally agree with you guys, the mold will be made from the kit and they will be kept identical to the original. Only thing that might change is that Eric will make sure the fit is perfect for our cars...I think we all agree that if there is improvement that can be done on that side it's a good thing.

I'm giving a call to Henge tomorrow.

Cool man! Yeah I just read your PM! The new shipping quote sound much better! Now I'm gonna call Eric monday (if I get cellphone reception lol.. we might be away at sea) and ask him about the details myself, like the material the kits will be made off, and blah...

dang, if only we could see it on another hatch besides a white one. The all white kinda throws you off on how it would look on a more modern notch.

see like 1,000 is a good posssibility, just the whole shipping charge kills it. you wont find but maybe 1 member who can afford 1500$ for there 300$ s12

DjayS12Apr 24, 2011, 10:13 pm · #40

I'm not trying to make money out of it. I love the kit and so does Kardey, we choosed to get some molds done and reintroduce them so if a S12 owner want and can afford the kit, he can! I expect to sell maybe one or two kits other than mine and kardey's.

As for update,I've talked to the guy myself, the material is fiberglass, he can make them in other material but for a higher price... which is unlikely to happen.

Now as soon we have the sideskirts up to Kardey's place, we will look into the next step which will be to see if we need and what kind of financial help we might need for that.

DjayS12 is at sea till the end of august... he comes every once in a while when he has internet access, but those times are few and far apart... before September you'll have your answer

DjayS12Jul 22, 2011, 11:28 pm · #43

In fact I go on here pretty much everyday, it's just that the internet is very slow on ship, so I'm mostly lurking the forum.. especially since nothing is really happening with the S12 since they didn't allowed me to bring the car on the ship (indeed)!

As for now, I am waiting for Henge to have enough free time to ship the sideskirts. That or to find someone that would be willing to pick them up from him and ship them for some extra cash... Henge is somewhat hard to have a reach of and is rarely on the internet. And there is also the fact that I am away in the arctic on a icebreaker at the moment like tommy said.

But the project is still going on.. just no progress have been done because we still don't have the sideskirts. I've started to look around with north carolina members to see if someone could take care of the shipping... not much success so far.

ashleyanneJul 23, 2011, 8:43 pm · #44

Oh I see. Well thank you for your replies, just very curious to see this take place since the Erebuni kit is something Ive been interested in for quite a while.

Ok so it have been a while but I'm getting back at it. So still no progress, still struggling to get the side ones from Henge up in quebec. I have is phone number now so hopefully that will help a bit.

If not Zastaba said he will look at what is needed to get some molds off his own molded skirt...

Behave, I haven't gave up yet!
