I'll be doing my cluch in the next couple of days and since I'm going to re-surface my flywheel I thought that I would lighten it as well.
Problem is that to balance it they need a crank shaft to mount it to...
What dose the ca-et flywheel look like?
Anything I can take off and not re-balance?
Lightening and balancing flywheel
if they say they need the crank they are wrong. i had mine lightened and rebalanced while doing my clutch as well and all they needed was the pressure plate and clutch disc. i had about five pounds taken out of mine and am going to go a bit more on my spare to see how light it could go.
You notice any difference? In what range?
Won't an aftermarket CA18DET flywheel work?
As far as I can tell no. Issues with the starter I heard but can't confirm.
Also want to keep cost down.
Sorry didn't see your guy's questions I have been busy at work. I noticed a slight increase in the quickness of revs with no load and it felt a bit better in driving situations. I do have a spare flywheel sitting in my tool box I could take a picture of it for you if you want. And Arro the ca-et can not use the ca-det flywheel as it has an 8 bolt pattern rather than the 6 bolt pattern. With talking with some people who used to race and build race engines and clutch setups in old Datsun's showed me some pictures and techniques as to lightening the flywheel and they would really carve away at the flywheel, I will be having my spare one brought down more than the five or so pounds I had taken off my current flywheel.
That's cool
Yeah a pic would be good. Is the back of it machined from factory?
Any place to take material off that won't require balancing?
Manny, I don't have a pic of the lightened flywheel, and yes the back is where the material was taken off of. And technically any time you take weight off your flywheel unless it's just getting resurfaced, it is highly recommended to have it rebalanced.
Im intrigued by this..idk if it'd be worth it for me considering its stock and will probably have a t25and thats it at least for now.
