Alright, so I'm sick and tired of this because I can't find anyone with an ecu that works for my car and I refuse to pay like 300 for one cause that is just outrageous especially since they seem to break all the time. I've looked everywhere on here and haven't found anything on how to wire a fuel pump to a switch and I don't want to guess and fry my electrical system or burn my car to the ground. So if someone would please help me with a quick how-to on how to wire up the pump to a switch and bypass my ecu since the ecu isn't letting the pump turn on. Also would be awesome if someone knows how to run it through the ignition so the pump switch is mainly just a cut off and not a switch that can run even when the car is off. Please Please help. I want to get my s12 running ASAP
Help! Fuel Pump
Iirc the ecu doesn't control the fuel pump, there's a relay in the engine bay that controls it... Easy way would be to go to your fuel pump, find the negative wire to the pump, ground it somewhere close by, then run a red wire to the duress panel into one of the fues blades (ether the one for fuel pump or somewhere that only gets power when the car is on...)
easier way is figuring out if your pump is not working and why is it not getting power...
Silly question, I assume you checked the fuse?
Regarding the relay, when you turn your key to "on" position, you should hear a relay click in the area behind the glove box and the fuel pump then runs to pressure. If no click, check the relay
Relay is good. It's an 84 so the pump is controlled by the ecu. Pump has power, but doesn't switch on. Onero't switch on because ecu isn't doing the ground for it. Relay (green pump one) is fine as is the ignition one. Pump is brand new, works just fine, tested it with direct battery hook up. Power and wires are correct the whole way back with no breaks. Just looking to bypass the ecu with a power switch since noone seems to have an 84 or 85 ecu laying around and I feel 300 is out of line because I'm a broke ass college kid. So anyone help with how to Do this so I can get it running as a daily and start putting money into other more important things?
Sorry red, yep interior fuse is good bud.

And vg30, that sounds really nice but I need to completely bypass the ecu and running it Like that is awkward because I still need the relay etc. I was more hoping to splice the power and ground for the Pump from the ecu to a switch then run power to the switch from somewhere so it pretty much follows stock harness and goes through all the correct fuses and relays, but I don't know if this is possible or what would be safe to splice into for power.
if you cut the wires ground and power at the pump make your own ground any ground and then run a wire to the fuse box for the power putting a switch inline probably somewhere by the console and bam 30 mins work and it totally bypass ecu puts it all on you.
The ECU controls the fuel voltage. If the ECU does not get a spark signal, after about 8-10 seconds, it cuts the fuel voltage. At least that is how the SE's do it. Some may use oil pressure too. Basic safety kinda feature...
If you have an open on your fuel pump wiring then it may sense it, and again, shut off the voltage.
Have you tested the pump to ensure it is working?
Have you tested the wiring to see if there is an initial voltage? (gonna need a helper for this one)
Is your ignition circuit working?
Best of luck.
Peace, Wolf
Thanks wolf and notch. Gonna try that switch hook up tonight or tomorrow. Yeah, I know the Pump works and I know there is initial voltage. Just need to bypass the ecu. Didn't think to just ground the Pump to the chasis back there. Feel kinda stupid about that but it should totally work now. Thanks a bunch guys really appreciate all your help. I'd buy you a box of doughnuts if any of you actually lived close to me.
glad i could help good luck
Problem fixed. Thanks guys.
What was your fix?
