so my car was running like shit: getting too much fuel, idling at 400 revs, shooting sick fireballs, etc so i changed out the 3 dead injectors. i also cleaned out the plenum and tb while i was in there.

now it idles way fucking mad high(1300-1600) unless i turn on the a/c and if i turn on the headlights it just idles higher and im getting like 17mpg driving like a grandma (i never even go past 2700). im fucking stumped. Ive replaced just about everything on this pile and it still doesnt fucking run right.

ive replaced: MAF(brand new), IACV, fuel injectors, coil, fuel pump, fuel filter, dizzy, TPS and i have new bosch plugs and wires today that im throwing on.

i also have an awful tick in low rpms thats starting to worry me....

need help before i sell this pile!!!!

How's your idle screw set?  timing?

silverton on 04:25:34 AM / 04-Aug-12How's your idle screw set?  timing?

i have no idea, ill check it out.

i originally set timing at 5 degrees retarded from stock specs because my car seemed to like it better before i changed most of those parts. ill try bumping it up when i get a timing light which should be tomorrow hopefully.

i remember hearing that advanced timing seems to wake up these old motors quite a bit.

any other ideas?

i changed out my plugs and wires. Now power delivery is sooooo much smoother, throttle response is crisp and all of my power is there. i did however noticed my coil was fried where it plugs in...

idle is still all over the place though, sometimes at around 1600, other times at about 1200 and even dropped as far as 500.
idle screw hasnt been touched at all.

come on guys, help!!!!

just a thought ever thought about a flat cam? ive had problems with v8s in the past with idle and poping backfires and such. idk if this applys to nissans just throwing stuff at the wall see what sticks.   Good Luck

UPDATE!
Changed my oil pump. (Unrelated issue)

Now car runs like dicks again, running SUPER rich. Even more than before so I pulled codes and got 13(chts) and 41(fuel temp).
Could my CHTS be the cause of this??? Please HELP!!

High idle is gone, just turned down on the idle screw.

silvertonDec 19, 2012, 3:35 am · #8

CHTS usually makes the car just not run right either when it's cold or warm.  fuel temp could probably do it.

WonderingravenDec 19, 2012, 1:55 pm · #9

Actually Like to see more on this topic because I also is having some weird high idle / massive fuel consumption.  One thing I have yet to replace is the CHTS but I should pull codes too.

Have you guys made sure that your O2 is cycling properly?  Mode 2 diagnostics, red and green should blink together fairly rapidly when revving the motor to 2,000 rpm.  I think the FSM says something like 5 times in 10 seconds.  My original O2 passed this test, but the hair of its teeth.  So I replaced it.  Now the lights are like a strobe in Mode 2 @ 2,000 rpm.

If they don't blink together, then it's running rich or lean, and you have other problems.  It could be old plugs, wires, cap, rotor, intake leak...

WonderingravenDec 19, 2012, 4:01 pm · #11

I Still need to double check the codes

Plugs are good, wires are good, cap and rotor is new especially the new sensor inside.

on my 3rd ivac, in which I want to delete and same with the aux air valve.

Hoses are actually good, but I was thinking of upgrading to silicone hoses and custom run each one.

I_heart_VVLDec 19, 2012, 9:41 pm · #12

Alright I'm gonna run it in mode 2 and see if it does that.
I've got new plugs/wires/coil and all that shit. I'm gonna go ahead and replace the cap and rotor this weekend regardless though.

Does anybody know where I can get a vaccum hose diagram for this pile? That's the only part I'm not so sure of.

WonderingravenDec 19, 2012, 10:37 pm · #13

My diagrams was silverton / gusto

Fucking Napa forgot to order my FTS when I ordered the CHTS so I have to wait until tomorrow -_______-

silvertonDec 23, 2012, 2:38 pm · #15

Damn, that looks like some cheesedick work if I ever saw any!

I_heart_VVLDec 23, 2012, 4:17 pm · #16

Ill say :P

No worries though I cleaned em and soldered em and threw on a fresh sensor. I couldn't find an S12 or Z31 part so I got one for a '94 300zx turbo, FAST along with nissanparts.cc shows them as being the same part no. so I just said fuck it. For those who get a fresh harness (something I should've done), remember that it is a thermisistor and NOT polarity sensitive.
She started up on the first try too, no more of that trying to start it 7 times bullshit. Also found the cause of my high idle to be a bad IACV gasket, I'll get one of those later.

I'll update this tomorrow when I get the FTS from NAPA.

WonderingravenDec 23, 2012, 4:55 pm · #17

FTS?

and Yay! my sev6 wasn't the only one with jank wiring too!

silvertonDec 23, 2012, 5:50 pm · #18

FTS must be short for fuel temp sensor

I_heart_VVLDec 26, 2012, 11:55 pm · #19

Forgot to update this, but I changed the fuel temp sensor and now she's running like she has never run before!

Fucking love how hard she pulls. Thanks dudes!

WonderingravenDec 27, 2012, 12:01 am · #20

Nice, where is the FTS located?

I_heart_VVLDec 27, 2012, 1:30 am · #21

It's the little sensor on the side of the FPR.
