so i just noticed it and its like a slight grinding on idle, think its bearing related to the clutch or something. basically car is idling, grinding noise is there, when i rev it, it gets louder with the engine speed, but when i have the clutch disengaged, (foot on clutch pedal) then theres no noise, any idea? im thinking pilot bearing but want to know what you guys think it would be.
ca18et
b trans.
some bearing or something really annoying.
Sounds like a throw-out bearing.
i was also thinking that, that is transmission affiliated right? if so tranny replacement would be solution.
The clutch may also be misaligned. When diagnosing an issue, always work from cheapest to most expensive solution.
well its original clutch :straight: and i just recently noticed it.
it very well could be a throw out bearing, our cars are pretty old, every s12 i have owned has had a noisy throw out bearing
i was looking at my model plate in a hood and i have a c trans. i thought early 86s had b trans, im pretty sure i can drive it for a long time.
if you have a C trans that means that you have a MK 1.5, i have a MK 1.5 also
oh cool, i cant remember where i read it but it said that anything before may 86 had b trans.
is yours a Ca20e?
im pretty sure your right that before may 86 it had b trans
nope, ca18et
if the noise comes and goes based on pedal positon, I vote throw out bearing
What?
Throwout bearings make noise when the clutch is disengaged (Pedal down), because that's when the throwout bearing is actually being used.
IF it's making noise when the clutch is engaged, Transmission input bearing.
IF it's making noise when the clutch is disengaged, throwout bearing.
start car in neutral, make noise. press clutch pedal to floor, no noise, release pedal, noise.
also is it possible that the tranny is just low on oil?
sounds like the trans input bearing
change the trans fluid and change the differential fluid also
