Found a 84 s12 hatchback turbo that was under a car cover for 10 years.  Bought car for 500 bucks.  Car is straight, super clean, good paint, has crazy turbo decals on bottom of doors, never seen anything graphics packages like it before.  So after fuel pump and tune up i got it to run but it runs horrible.  Car just sputters and lacks power, if I feather the throttle I can get it to wind up but then it falls back on its face.  I am totally ignorant of nissan cars etc.  I should post some pics because this dang car is amazingly clean.

Congrats and welcome, and yes please pics pics pics. you probably have some bad fuel in the tank if its been sitting for that long with out being drained first or had something like stabil put in the tank. i would throw something in there to help clean that out, and what parts did you change in the tune up i.e. fuel filter, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, etc, etc.

I dropped the tank which was pretty clean, cleaned out fuel lines with cleaner.  changed fuel filter, dizzy cap and rotor, plugs and wires.  Fixed leaky turbo outlet coupler.  Removed rusted out cat and fitted on a cat from an eclipse turbo.  Strange thing is that it ran great for about a week or two then started going bonkers.  The car seems to be running worse.  I'm hoping to get things straightened out before I get frustrated and sell it to a more experienced nissan fan.

wonder if the ignitors are faulty?

Last night I pulled off connectors for throttle pos switch, and injectors and cleaned the prongs.  Still no go, I have a shop manual so this weekend i will check ohm readings.  I'm leaning towards ignition coils at this point as they look original and the plugs and cap were totally shot to sh**.  I have always been under the impression that when a coil fails it stays bad.  BTW the engine idles smoothly for 15 or so seconds then starts to really sputter and occasionally it will die.

When running bad is it blowing black smoke? Does it smell of raw gas? Sometimes we experience a stuck idle controller, could be that. It's a small device that looks like a witch's hat that has an electric heater inside. As soon as you start, the heater gets hot and causes a bimetallic strip to heat and rotate. This in turn moves a variable oriface to program idle air mixture. If this is stuck, then the idle mixture is no good, so check into that possibility.

Car is running, my friend who was a nissan tech solved all my problems.  Throttle position switch was out of adjustment and we created a new turbo flange with a silicone transition that solved one mother of a vacuum problem.  Car runs good but now my turbo sounds like its dying.  Car is not going up for sale....was just frustrated that it was running poorly...and I have a limited budget with a frugal wife on my tail..  I will post pics shortly.
