T2 turbo cracked wastegate housing

Has anybody with a T2 noticed visible cracks in the casting around the wastegate port?  I finally got my exhaust manifold and turbo off and took all the pieces off to inspect the vanes and noticed some decent sized cracks.   Can I clean up the mating surfaces and roll with it or is this the death sentence for the turbo?  My funds are limited at this moment but if I decide to run with a t25 is it mandatory to install a intercooler if I only boost like 8 pounds?

Cracks are pretty common on older turbos, not really a GOOD thing, but it shouldn't hurt any.

A T25 will run a slightly cooler charge temp than the T2, so it shouldn't be an issue.

Yeah, they do that. Doesn't make much difference but I'm sure it affects the lousy T2 efficiency somewhat.
