I was going to cut the muffler off and weld on a better say... magnaflow muffler or something. Then I ran across this link and it says

http://s12silvia.com/community/index.php?/topic/3121-building-and-modifying-your-ca20e/
"+ Removing the rear muffler on your CA20E is not a good thing. The factory system places a resonator in the middle and the muffler at the end. The muffler provides the back pressure which the CA20E MUST HAVE to make torque."

I have also seen s12s on youtube with a ca20e running just a glasspack and tip and it sounded and looked like it was running fine.

What's the best option here.

GTFO here  you can replace the muffler with no ill effects I did it on my notch and tons of other people have done it too get rid of that pos muffler set-up and buy what you want...

You want some back pressure. not dumped or strait threw cherry bomb on stock n/a motor. If you ever drove a car/truck with leaking header and/or exhaust you notice it looses its bottom end torque.

for example: when i drove my ca20e s12 to the muffler shop 1/4 mile away with dumped header! It sure had NO pep in its step. but felt and sounded faster at high rpm, slow from a launch. but after i got some cheap ass work done. It wanted to boogie from a dead stop. Every red light i took off from i noticed everyone was behind me. even tho i didn't dump clutch or rev it up at all. It wasn't faster. but it sure was "quicker".

"Back pressure loads the engine and produces torque. "

about to make the purchase. Center in, center out? or do i need one with an offset.

And I believe i heard the pipe itself is 2" somewhere on here. So i need a 2" inlet or go 2.25/2.5 and crimp it before welding?

Center should be fine. I'd go with 2inch
