Whats the standard checklist to fixing bad mpg.
I'm at about 8mpg and it sucks.
(search was giving me a 404, i sure theres another topic on this though.)
Mpg
How is it running? Consider puilling your ecu codes.
No i havent yet. I know sometimes when im sitting at a light or warming up the engine it smells rich
Check the plugs, and check if they are firing.
Plugs are fine and its been pretty much resolved in another thread
Oil. Oil filter. Injectors. Air intake. Trans oil/filter. There are lots of things. I was about 14mpg when I got my car 2 years ago. I changed all those plus spark plugs wires and cap. And started running 92octane now I'm about 26-29 mpg. Ran all kinds of cleaners through too
from my experience id say to check two things that super cheap.
first thing is that yellow temp sensor on front of motor that tells ecu that motor is cold and ecu tell injectors to dump more fuel into system. i just grabbed one from a nissan in junkyard and that fixed my problem with mpg. i think they universal so autoparts store might have them in stock and not special order.
next is the fuel pressure regualtor. i got cheap in line fuel pressure gauge from autzone. cut the fuel line and clamped it in. took few seconds for me to realize my fuel pressure regulator was fucked. i fixed that and got better mpg.
its worth a try. if not. atleast you can take them two things off the check list of things wrong with your car.

I will have both of these checked out as well. Do you have a pic of this yellow temp sensor?
Still don't see this yellow temp sensor. New ngk wires, and ntk o2 sensor are in. Still bad mpg. Still smell fuel in the cockpit from about 75-100% throttle.
Next in line in to take the injectors off unless someone has a better idea. TPS maybe? FPR?
It might not be yellow anymore. Its kinda hidden on front/top of motor. infront of first intake runner. Do you got a factory service manual? if not download it. or better yet, go to a local used book store and hope to find one, or ebay. That book will be your best friend. you can also check rockauto for replacement temp sensor so you get a idea what the sensor looks like. Its also the same as on my nissan pickup motor. I had to swap the temp sensor on my truck(z24i motor) last week also because i was getting shit mpg. its worth a try. and cheap. I was amazed on such a small part fixed my car. the ecu keeps dumping gas into the motor till that sensor says not to.
GhoSt on 07:43:40 PM / 08-Mar-13about 75-100% throttle.
You sure this isn't a contributing factor?
You aren't gonna get 25+ mpg if you are getting that far into it.
No i barley get it to wot. just once in awhile. 95% of my driving is 5 miles to work and 5 back 5 days a week.
75percent to 100percent of throttle is alot in my car. id say that is wot? maybee? anything past 80percent is pointless(i might need a tune up also, i can't afford plugs, wires, cap and rotor. i did o2 and temp sensor). I think my sweet spot is before 60percent. so past 80percent is pointless in my ca20e.
Go buy a $20 autozone/ebay vacuum/boost gauge. a vacuum gauge is more expensive then a vac/boost. so i just got a cheap'o autozone one. even tho i don't have boost. my camper and my work truck has a vac gauge. so does uhaul trucks. they amazing and can help you out on where "wot" is. plus gauge's are cool. and look cool. and a vac gauge is easyer too install then any other gauge out there. just need to tap into the intake manifold.
hope this helps. if not, keep asking question's till we get this figured out.
Ok so update today.
Changed the o2 sensor a day or 2 ago. Mpg has shot up and im doing great on gas now.
However. Still smell fuel pretty strongly.
Maybe a stupid question but i didnt see it. Wheres my fuel filter located at.
On the passenger side front strut tower, right near the intake manifold.
Its Fixed!!!!!
Fuel filter was the culprit.
Its sad how much more power I have now after the clogged filter is gone.
Can actually drift in 3rd gear with the better fuel flow.
Did you notice when the old fuel filter was empty of gas. it still was heavy? that is how you know it was WAY overdue.
Yeah it was pretty heavy when empty. And the bottom was rusting pretty hardcore lol!
thats awesome. i love finding stupid shit wrong with my car that is easy to fix.
