I haven't driven my S12 much these last few months. Inspection expired 12-31-2012. So I took it for the 'safety inspection' no emissions test this time, yeah!. Would not pass because high beams will not work. I don't know why. But that's for a different thread I suppose.
Anyway, as I was driving back to the house I experience a lagging shift. What I mean is that I would give it gas and it felt like it took a while for the transmission to catch up with the engine. This happened in every gear going forward. It shifted between gears normally. It was just the lag time to get up to speed.
Is this a case of bad or low fluid? How do I check it on manual tranny?
Thank you in advance.
Ok, I better get to the manual and se if I can figure out why my high beams don't work.

87 V6 SE - Transmission Slipping
Take apart your headlight switch and clean all metal on metal connections with rubbing alcohol....manual trannys have a drain plug on them id empty and refill as its prolly really old i dont know if that wil fix your tranny problem though
Slipping? Are you sure it's not just your clutch?
Ya thats what it sounds like to me
That's what mine did when I first got it when I would be driving like a dickhead.
It eventually started slipping in 4th and 5th, so I got a new clutch. No problems since.
Oh and my inspection guy never checked my high beams, or else I wouldn't have passed lol. Come to think of it, he didn't check any of the lights....
Maybe come down to Fort Worth? haha
Sounds like it may be about time for a new clutch!
Thanks everyone for the feedback. I will get it checked out next week or so. As for the high beams, not sure what I'll do yet. I really would like to get them operational.
Do what turbo s12 said and take apart the stalk and clean the contacts that's usually the problem....
neither of my high beams work because they are blown out. Used to be just one, and now neither work..
I cleaned these contacts but still not working. Are these the correct ones?

NO...at the base of that stalk is a thin plastic cover..you can see through it partially...pop it off and you'll see the internals/contacts.

Thanks. I read in some of the other threads about this. I'll get out there tomorrow during the daylight hours and see if I can get that cleaned up and working. Huge thanks.
Yup while your cleaning them just gently lift them with a toothpick or something just don't bend them.
how do you get the thin plastic cover back on? i'm about to duct tape it back on or something.

Cleaned up the contacts and reassembled. Still no brights. Maybe have to replace the switch.
Still no lights? Did you check while moving the switch around that all tabs made contact?
Ok, clutch was completely run out. Replaced it, throw out bearing, pilot bearing, fluid, master and slave cylinders, replaced starter and all of that is better now.
Thinking about having another go at the headlight switch. Do you recommend me leaving it connected to the car and check the contacts with the lights on? I was removing the stalk and cleaning the contacts off the car. I followed the instructions by lifting slightly with a toothpick careful not to bend. It appears to be making contact on all points (as far as I can see).
I guess, at what point do you know if the switch is just bad? I pulled the switch off of my 88 to test with but I still get the same problem. So either both switches from the 87 and 88 are dirty or bad or it is a different problem. Wish I had a new switch to verify for sure.

Maybe I will make a video of what I'm doing and you can tell me if I'm doing it right or wrong.

This is a stupid question for sure and I'll bet you already checked, but are you sure your hi beam bulbs are working?
Also check the small harness that connects to the light to the harness. On my se the actual high beam wire was jacked at one point.
