Heater core and heater hose question.

I just replaced the heater core, but I don't know which hose goes to which pipe. Does it even matter? I would hate to eff the damn thing up after just spending 7 hours replacing it.

If I remember correctly, one hose comes from the block, and another goes to the intake manifold/thermostat housing. I don't expect this to be engine specific, but I have an '85 ca20e, which I believe is a mrk1.5.

These are some pictures I found on the forum which are relevant:
These are the pipes which lead to the heater core, they are on the left side of the engine bay.

Bottom pipe block, top pipe Thermo housing. The hot coolant comes from the block, pushes out all air bubbles that want to go up, out to the thermostat housing and eventually to the radiator. Easy peasy!

Right. I should have thought about it a little more logically.

Thanks a ton!

Once again, I have learned something new on Club S-12. And once again, Jay has enlightened me.  Didn't know it made a diff where the hoses ago. Once it stops raining I will check mine. Should start a poll on whether I have them on right. 50/50 chance lol.

Ha! Dave I have faith in you. Knowing that sometimes us old farts mess up and still get it right. I am guilty of tearing stuff apart, THEN realizing I COULD have snapped a pic first...but usually I get lucky. OR I just ask Keith if he has a picture of whatever

Dumb question...but how hard is it to replace the heater core?  My windshield steams up by the dash when I use my heater and reeks of coolant, so I just bypassed it.  That was like 4 years ago.  I would really like to replace the heater core so I can drive it during winter without freezing my nards off.

It's not hard, just a BIG PIA since you have to pull the entire dash and duct work to get at it. Took me 8 hrs out, 4 hrs back in. Only good thing is got to do lots of cleaning with all that out. Keep everything laid out in order to make re-assembly easier.
BTW my hoses were correctly installed. Better lucky than smart I guess!

Its only a PIA if you have A/C like my back car :(. The A/C sits in-front of the heater core but in the same box so you cant pull it out without going somewhere to get the refrigerant drained and disposed of
