Rear end rotational clunk

Driving home from work yesterday I noticed the car had a rotational clunk. It is very loud on deceleration/coasting even if it's in Neutral. When I'm braking it is none existent. If I'm steady on throttle it is loud and obvious. If I floor the pedal it is still there but gets quite.

Anyone have any ideas?

I was thinking possible CV Joint problem, maybe new axles are needed. The car has a single piece drive shaft off a KA 5speed transmission into stock CA18ET Differential.

diff mount maybe? does it speed up when accelerate? If so its not a diff mount. I know this might sound stupid but are your lug nuts torqued down I didn't torque one of the lugs on the wifes dsm and it clunked when driving...

Ended up being few lug nuts loose on the the rear driver side tire. I feel stupid for not checking that first.  :embarrassed2:

Hooray - lugnuts much less expensive than the other options. 100 gold stars for great suggestion by Sideways.

Boy, I wish more mysterious noises would be so easily resolved! Various vibrations and sounds go on, like a vibration / noise when driving straight that goes away when a right turn is initiated. It's like the engine is resting against something and a right turn releives the pressure...makes me just turn up the radio to cover it up!

I just found a really annoying metallic clunk was a badly worn drivers door hinge pin - the pin that holds the center metal piece that holds the door open. It was  loud enough I though it was in the strut tower. New pin (custom filed down bolt) and no more noise!

Ill buy two pins like that from you red lol
I know where my banging is coming from, loose caliper up front and flat spots on front tires lol

Great fix Dave! I have always had a subtle knock from my door, once again I simply turn up the stereo to mask it. I now have an annoying groan from the right front, sounds like an old hooptie when I go over bumps LOL! I think it may be the tie rod, but there is no zerk fitting on it. Music up again!
