weird sputtering and misfiring

alright so here's my full story....i bought NGK spark plug wires for my SE and well...they where the wrong ones...i only had two of the NGK's on and the rest where the ones that came when i bought the car (plugs 1 and 3). she started to misfire and sound rough from idle and drive up until...3k or a bit earlier, ordered the correct ones from Rockauto.....and....they sent me saturn plugs...which thankfully i didn't put on....and they resent out the correct ones....put the new ones on and it's still misfireing and sounding like i have a cam during warm/hot starts, but when it sits over night and i turn it on it seems to run just fine until i give it full throttle and it cuts out on me. i'm not sure where or what the problem is, i never had a problem with the motor till recently changing the plugs trying to do a tune up.

Did you cross 2 of the wires? What type of plugs did you use? Loose connection of the wires on the plugs?

RomeroMay 16, 2013, 2:09 pm · #3

no did the plugs one at a time...had ngk which where wrong type...then got some acdelco ones that are the right fitting ones. the new wires came stright from rock auto and are new but still getting the same problem

How was it running before you changed the wires?

RomeroMay 17, 2013, 12:57 pm · #6

running fine no sputtering or anything, not sure how old the old wires where....thought they where the original ones and wanted to change them, the only thing that stood out was it's higher then usual idle in park which was around...1500, but other then that it was fine, just wanted to attempt to do good maintenance on it.

What brand plugs did you use?

Get some NGK's, vg's run the best on ngk's since they're the factory Nissan plug. And also check the gap on them and also that the wires are on the plugs nice and tight

RomeroMay 17, 2013, 4:37 pm · #10

getting NGK's is what started this in the first place.....i can't find proper S12 NGK's and after it caused this problem i've lost my trust in them

Did you change anything else? Cap, rotor, timing??

any ecu codes? Mine did this when my distributor started being gay. So you have acdelco spark plugs, what about the plug wires?
RomeroMay 17, 2013, 5:15 pm · #13

sorry lemme clarify...ACDelco wires....the spark plugs themselves are still the same ones i got with the car...i have NGK spark plugs ready to be put in just haven't had time, and yes i made sure they are correct....i'm not sure how to check my ECU Codes, and the only other thing i changed that day where my headlights but that's it nothing else was touched on the engine.

Colonel GustardMay 17, 2013, 5:26 pm · #14

Acdelco wires? Not sure how good those are. I trust ngk all day. Been running them for a while now, no issues at all. The wires could be arcing onto the manifold, while the cars running grab the wires to see if they shock you, yes it will hurt lol. Also make sure they click when you push them into the dizzy cap and the spark plug

how do i check my ECU for Codes?

Colonel GustardMay 17, 2013, 6:18 pm · #16

Pull it out, dont unplug it, driver kick panel. Turn the key on and turn the dial on the side to diag mode, wait for the lights to blink 3 tines then switch it all the way back. Count number that each light flashes, then report back with number of flashes
