I forgot: What springs are exact bolt-ins that have a stiffer spring rate, and/ or lower the car. Also, the same thing for the shock/ struts. I want some stiff lowering springs with adjustible shocks/ struts.

280zx front springs
Z31 rear springs
you can use koni inserts for the front struts and there is still some koni rear shocks for the s-12 still available.

What do you mean by Koni "inserts". Never heard that term before.

bartc_jdate not saved · #5

our front struts are a insert and strut housing unit.. the insert is the only part you change when changing the shocks/shock insert

brownsilviadate not saved · #6

can we use s13 koni inserts without doing the hub swap?

oreosmugglerdate not saved · #7

but what exactly is an insert?
And what are the bushings and whatdo they do?

I am really horrible at this technical terms stuff, well i pretty much dont know anything about suspension at all. :-?

Our front suspension is a contained unit, unlike the rear.

There is a spring, a housing and a cartridge.

The cartridge is the oil filled part, that actually controls the dampening.

Bushings are used pretty much anywhere in the suspension there is metal on metal contact. Anywhere there is a joint, or a pivot point, or whatever, there is a bushing. All the bushing really does is absorb energy, so it's not transferred to the driver's ass.

Nissan from the factory used mushy rubber. Which is great when new for comfort, and so-so for handling. Because the bushings are soft, they flex a fair bit under abuse. As they get older, they harden and shrink, tear or just disintegrate. Completely ruins how a car feels and transfers information back to you.

Guys step up to stiffer bushings, usually a polyurethane. Poly is much harder than rubber. While you get a harsher ride, your handling and confidence will skyrocket.

What was that bushing kit again? Z31 rear kit from who? ST?

What is the part number for the lowering springs for our cars? Please give detailed information like part number and model of what car your using and year of the vehicle.

I know its Z31 for the fronts and 280ZX for the rear, but what year are the cars and what is the part number at JCWhitney?

Has anyone done this conversion? If so I know someone posted pics of the before and after can someone reply with that info.

I know its Z31 for the fronts and 280ZX for the rear
You got it backwards........'84-'89 300zx for the rear, and '79-'83 280zx for the front.
Don't know the part numbers....... go to www.jcwhitney.com and search.

will there be a negative camber for the rear with the Suspension Tech. springs? because i think it does for the z31 300zx....a least that's what i read off of.

have anybody tried??? i have a set and the start and end curve of the springs dont match up with the stock. if you guys know what i mean. will that effect the drive??

when i have time i will get a pics of the springs, that will be around 4-5 days.

Keithdate not saved · #13

If you lower the rear and have IRS you will have some pretty good negative camber......................I'm sitting at -3 degrees on each side with the Tokico lowering springs, and they only lowered an inch!!

akinaspeedstarsdate not saved · #14

man im never into suspension until now, what is IRS anyway??<----(stupid question that everyone know) and can spacers help the nagetive camber??

Keithdate not saved · #15

IRS = Independent Rear Suspension

akinaspeedstarsdate not saved · #16

so our rear set up is a IRS?? and the 240sx rear set up is not???

iliRandyilidate not saved · #17

It is but way way diffrent.
