check the starter motor wiring. its most likely that or a dodgy solenoid in the starter motor. i had a starter solenoid fail the same way.

check to see if the dizzy screws came loose and your timing went outa wack.  You gotta let us know what all you touched in the bay so we can ssess what might have gone wrong.  Check for grounds all around on parts and check for anything that you just see lying around.

there are two types of distributors on the NA motor. one has a four wire plug that goes up and joins onto the injector loom, and the other has a 2 wire plug that (if i remember correctly) plugs into the alternator wiring loom. check you havent dislodged the plug when changing the oil filter.
an easy way to tell which dizzy you have is the four wire one has three separate plugs into the computer, the two wire one has a single plug in the computer.

hope this helps....

alright i\'ll check all that and get back to you i am probably gonna replace the starter and the timing belt and the distributor just because it wouldnt hurt.

make sure you use a reduction drive starter like the original...
you cant change the belt as its a chain drive on an fj...
and good luck with the dizzy, they are hard to find and are usually expensize!
