will the 89-90 series 240 tranny fit in one of the se v6'S? cuz mine is shot (or very close!!) and i found one cheap out of a 240...
240 tranny in an SE?
This thread was saved without dates. "Around Jun 2004" is estimated from neighbouring threads.
I'd take some close measurements of it and yours before you buy it. I have heard that the SE transmissions are a bit of a PITA because they are propiatary (unique to the car). Meaning the tail shaft length is different. The other thing to concider is the yolk on the output shaft. I don't know how much monkeing around with this Nissan did, but it may be the same or not.
i just looked it up..the 89-96 uses the FS5W71C tranny..the gear ratios are IDENTICAL ('cept for reverse). But i still would like a for sure yes...(or no)

right. The designation might be the same, but you still have to watch out for the tail shaft length.
No it won't just bolt up. Its kinna like the R200 thing. The internals are the same but the housings can be different per model.
i was told that only the 200sx trans will fit but the 200's trans is almost the same as the 300 but its an inch shorter, or so i was told but i did find one from an 88 and it cost me $500 here in GA.
crap..i need one..its so GDMND frustrating!! cant find one anywhere!!
If the gears are the same, then maybe the internals from the 240 could be put in your case...8)
If the cases are not the same, the core is. You can simply swap the bell and or tail. I think it does fit, though. If you are not comfortable with the swap (there are some pain in the but snap rings in there) a trans shop will do it cheap if you bring them both boxes.
What problems are you having with the tranny?
Be specific, please.
heres my problem..
when the car is running , in neutral, and clutch not engaged to the flywheel, there is a hard tick coming from the transmission (NOT THE ENGINE, positive about this). Now, as soon as the clutch is fully engaged (pressed to the floor), the ticking stops...completely. During driving (only did it once, just to get home) the lower the rpms, the more ticking..heres my thought..the throwout bearing could be out of place, or something in that area. i say that because the retaining "clip" thing, was slightly bent during installation and that may have slipped off. OR maybe the pressure plate came loose, explained by centripetal force..dunno,.ideas??
It sounds like it may be the same problem that one of my friends has with his truck. Does the speed of the ticks change with gear changes or do they stay at engine speed. It should sound really wicked in 5th. Does this sound about right?
definately ticks faster as RPM's get higher...but it works a little better..sorta..dunno...g2g to work...post more later
here's the "more"..as it turns out, one of the springs/retaining clips had a slight bend to it..it wouldnt hold the fork to the release bearing..gonna replace it and try it..
I had same problem and it was my input shaft bearing. When it gets worse it will get harder to shift. Mine got to the point where it would come out of gear when I'd beat it down. Anyways if this just started you might be able to get away with just changing the imput shaft bearings before other stuff gets ruined.
Jsvob03heres my problem..

QUOTE] yup, throw out baring.
..mope..reverse idler gear AND bearing...the bearing had exploded and was flying around the inside of the tranny..the gear..heh..what gear..it was in a million chunks.ive already replaced the tranny with another SE tranny..cost me $200 or so, and like 10 days of work..(bent shift rods n stuff..PITA)
