I have a 1987 200sx with the 1.8 turbo.My fuel pumps cuts out intermitantly.
Is there a relay that could cause this and where would it be located? What else could the problem be? Maybe the fuel pump itself? The pump is pretty expensive so I don't want to guess.
Thanks

Check your connections at the fuel pump, theres a problem when they get old to get corroded and possibly grounding out. You can access the top from the trunk/rear hatch area. Search on the old web also as its happened to others as well. They fixed it by replacing the sending unit as the wires to the pump go through and sometimes over time the gromet degrades allowing the wires to wear on the metal plate and that could be whats causing your problem. The relay probably wouldn't be a bad place to check. Does it cut out in turns or just regular driving? Be sure also that all your bat cables are clean and snug as well as all the chassis grounds as well.
Oh, and welcome to the club.
Thanks for the reply.
It will cut out any time. I had the plate off and was checking the wiring with the key on and got called away when I came back it was running. I have heard that it should cut out once the pressure builds up but this one is running steady. I can't count on it though. Do you know where that relay is?
The relay looks to be in the rear, near the right hand license lamp. According to the diagram I have in my chilton. Looks like its near the hatch/ trunk latch. I hope that helps, there is also a mention of a connector in the panel in the rear right hand side tool box to releive full pressure. May want to check and make sure those connections are good as well. I hope that helps.
Found both of them and there is a wire corroded off on that connector on the right inside the panel. That fixed the problem.
Thanks alot.
Glad I could help.
