I found a 200sx for sale down the road from me. I'm seriously considering buying it. There's only one problem with it. It's an auto. I was wondering what is involved in swapping transmissions in the car. Do i need a new ECU... Will i need a MT driveshaft... Does the engine have a different rear backing plate... Does anyone have a copy of the Factory Service manual page about the trasmission...and is there anything else needed(apart from clutch and that kinda stuff)? Thanks in advance for your help
Auto to five speed swap in SEV6
This thread was saved without dates. "Around Jun 2004" is estimated from neighbouring threads.
I have not done the swap before, but off the top of my head, here are some of the things you will need:
Pedal assembly - clutch and brake.
Clutch master cylinder, clutch slave cylinder and all related hard and soft lines
Flywheel
Clutch/Pressure plate - pilot bearing, throwout bearing
Transmission (duh)
Most likely the driveline, but not sure on that one
Possibly the starter
I don't think you'll need a different ECU
If you have access to a junkyard with an SE V6, that would be your best bet.
Also, you can take a look at the Fische on Z31.com to see all the related clutch/transmission parts you'll need. Most of it will be the same, minus a few hardline locations.
Well I have not doe the swap, but I had (sniffle) both a 5 speed (dead) and my auto. The drive shafts are different. The TPS is different.
You will either need to scavange a trans and drive shaft out of a 200 or have a custom drive shaft built because the tail shafts are spacific to these cars.
I would also suggest getting a 5 speed computer, otherwise it will be throwing trans codes at you forever.
cool, thanks for your help...i've decided (if i can scrounge the money) to buy it
i have the FSM for the 88 SE..(d'same as 87 SE)..so tell me exactly what is needed and ill post!
Changing the ECU would be beneficial, and if you are going to 5 Speed, you may as well change the car either to a turbo, or VG...that way you can do it all at once. 8)
Is this car a VG, or a CA20, because I thought only the CA20's were available with the auto...:dontknow:
I have an auto VG. I have also seen 2 others.
