ok, im just learning about CA's, so dont hit me please:). i have an NX2000, so i know my SR20, but im trying to broaden my Nissan horizons a little.
so i have an idea for an s12 that i dont even is possible or not, thats why im askin.
-stock CA20E bottom end(8.5:1cr, good for turbo; 0.2L more than CA18DET)
-CA18DE head(good--DOHC; only problem, FWD; unless there was a usdm DOHC CA that i dont know about)
-aftermarket manifold and turbo(im thinkin T28), Downpipe, exhaust, etc.
main question--is this even possible??
im mainly trying to research this to be an alternative to buying a jdm CA18DET in the quest for ~200hp. all usdm parts, if somethin breaks, just go to nissan.
ok, im done now.
thank you, and tip you waitresses.

wierd usdm hybrid idea
This thread was saved without dates. "Around Jun 2004" is estimated from neighbouring threads.
People have tried this before, it doesn't work. One, apparently the threading on the cylinder head bolts is different on the CA18DE head than the CA20E block, and two, the timing belt from the CA18DE doesn't fit. Haven't read too much into this so anyone who knows specifics, add on.
yeah, i figured there was some little things like this that would mees up the whole plan. oh, well....thanks anyways.
....i still want an S12 with a CA18DET....working on that now.
Well, ca20e rods are basically tooth picks. I doubt they'll live past 160hp.
I hate to have to go through this again ...
Buying USDM stuff and bolting it together will not make a cheap alternative to buying a real CA18DET.
You'll probably spend as much if not more for a USDM CA18DET hybrid, and it will still not have what is so desireable - the ca18det bottom end, or the ca18det variable intake.
Why do you want DOHC?
