as many of you know, next year I will be competing in the Silver State Classic Challenge in Nevada. Info is posted in the "Announcements" section of General Chat. I've read around in the post of the 235-250HP buildup thread. I just need to get a few things straight.

The DET bottom end can be bolted into the ET.
Is the stroke of the DET the same or different than the ET's?
Is the DET throttle body bigger than stock? Is it bigger than the 240SX TB?

I want to have a goal of AT LEAST 200 whp. So far I have:

-Garrett T25/ T28/ or larger (depending on my financial status)
-Decent BOV
-Boost controller (havent decided on manual or digital. reccomendations?)
-Spearco FMIC (or other high quality FMIC)
-Custom header (if Jeff "Good Doctor" makes one, he needs a stocker to fab up a "master copy")
-Custom 3" S/S Exhaust (including downpipe, cat, and straight-through muffler
-Colt regrind on stock cam
-350cc+ Injectors
-High volume fuel pump (first gen. DSM I hear bolts in - True?)
-Custom CA20E style intake manifold (again, if Jeff makes one. again, he needs a stocker to make a "master copy")(CA20E style is easier to route IC plumbing, cuz then you won't have to route it over the head)

I think this should get me to my goal. Although I will need a high flow fuel rail. I also want a port and polish, but I dont know where to get that done. I need help with that. Also, any suggestions on mods are welcome.

what about safc or stand alone, cause you will need either if you use those injectors

SAFC? Stand alone??? Uhhh, I dont know what that is. I've been around cars all my life (for the most part) and this electronic crap really confuses me sometimes.

S-AFC stands for Super Air Fuel Controller and it's made my Apex Japan. What it does is it allows you to run larger injectors by altering the MAF sensor signal. A stand alone is an aftermarket computer that replaces the Stock ECU and will also allow you to run larger injectors and change ignition settings etc. The S-AFC is just an add on unit that connects to the maf sensor and other wires. It would be cheaper and easier than the stand alone computer would be.

Great... Now I need to know where to get one.

the S13 trottlebody is bigger, I bought one today. Standard is ~55mm and S13 is ~66mm (This is the CA18DET S13)

The block is bolt-on.

Its the same stroke, cc and compression. The compression difference is in the head.

You would eather need the support girdle from the DET block or a whole DET block. Im going to use the first option.

This far the plan for my CA18ET is:
Ported / Polished ET head.
Match ported intake, head, mainfold and turbo.
ET block with girdle from DET, ET crank, pistons and weight balanced rods.
APR bolts between pistons/rods and block/head.
CA18DET injectors with a home made fuelrail.
CA18DET trottlebody (and widen the intake to match the trottlebody).
BOSCH recirculating BOV, or recirculating HKS SSQV.
Mitsubishi TD04-15t with exhaust housing #6.
Digital boostcontroller.
SMT6 or 7 piggyback computer. (Easy and tunable with laptop)
One single or dual modified volvo 740 ICs.
3" downpipe to cat and 2,5" afterwards. (Ends in dual high performace MC mufflers, baisicly straight thrue pipes :P)
Walbro 255lph fuelpump.
Adjustable BTR.
Standard CA18DET clutch.

Im happy if I get more then 200whp out of this.. since it would mean more then 245hp at the crank. This is twice the 122hp thats stock :)

Well actually, you would have over 245hp at the crank, because the manufacturer's dyno is taken at the the tailshaft of the trans. And the transmission takes anywhere from 5 to 10% for a manual and 10ish to 20%ish for an auto. So yea. It says that in the Chiltons manual.

zectordate not saved · #8

Oh.. then its not the crank values I need to get to 245hp, its the power at the tailshaft of the trans.

So... standard values are after gearbox... usualy we get the hp/kw readnings at the crank from the factorys here in sweden.

This explains why the car "feels" to have more power then other 120hp-ish cars I have driven.

Well then... I guess I need to tune more, since the goal is to dubble the effect of the engine :P thats ~250whp then.
