i have the chance to invest in a new engine (a VG30E), and I was wondering how much power these engines make stock, can I turbo it, and how much power do you think you make?

That depends on what car it is comming out of as far as the power goes.

I believe the 87 200SX 3.0 made 160hp and the 88 made 165 hp.

It will be a little more frome the 300zx of the same year because of the different intake used.

Of course you can turbo it. Anything is possible with money. But if you want to turbo it, start with a turbo motor out of a Z31 300ZX. You'll have to have some custom exhaust manifolds made. While you're at it, it would be a good idea to include an intercooler as well. The Z31 300ZX Turbo made between 200 and 210 hp from the factory.

thats 210hp with a crappy t3 pushing only 6psi with out a fmic. so a fmic and oh about 10-12psi and youd be easily at about 250-270hp

Alright... the VG30E is looking pretty good, but will it bolt in with the CA20E Tranny?

I don't know if the bell housings are the same or not, but I do know that the gearing is quite different between the two and you would be reving the hell outta that vg in 1st and 2nd for sure.

the "B" trans has an external mounted shifter I believe. All the "C" transmissions are internal.

The only gear that is different from the ca20e and the vg30e is O.D.

All 3 engines used the same trans for the 5 speed....FS5W71C.

That is straight out of my FSM.

The turbo has much more agressive gearing than the other two.

Here is a link to a pic from my FSM. Copy and paste it into your browser bar or it won't work.
