Well, I finally got fuel to the fuel rail after almost a year of wondering why it wouldn't work. Well I got water in the fuel tank and as a result, got water in almost everything else; lines/injectors/pump. So I decided to try and swap just the pump from the housing from one unit, and putting it into my old pump housing and what do you know! I have fuel going to the rails now! :)

Yes, I already dropped the tank and emptied it and cleaned all the lines.

Anyways, now I got where it will fire up again, and now I've got a whole set of new problems.

First thing's first; I have to use Starter fluid in the intake to get it to fire when it's cold. Once it's fired, it will die if I try to give it gas.

Once it's warmed up I can safely give it gas and rev it up.

While it sits there at idle, it gets real hot, and I have to take it for a spin and it will drop back down to just above normal. I've already checked my thermostat, I pulled it out and boiled it in a pot of water to test it, so I know it's working correctly. My fans are also running properly from what I can tell.

While I'm driving it I have VERY little power and "sputtering", very bad sputtering. The whole car actually jerks intermitantly while the RPM's are going up.

This thing has new plugs/wires/dist cap, new injectors, new 5 speed trans (swapped it my self), and new fuel filter/oil filter/airfilter.

Any help would be great, I'd really appreciate if someone could help me in this order. I'd first like to get it fired without starter fluid.

Thanks

Well to start with, you say that water got everywhere, are your injectors still ok?? Secondly has your ECU spit out any codes, is your MAF working properly. The way you say it, it sounds like the engine may not be getting hte right amount of fuel...and also how much gas have you run through it...is it possible that there may still be some water in the lines?? 8) But first things first, I would check to see if the ECU is giving any problem codes...8)

hmmm hot ay? it could be a few things i'd get yourself a mechanic stethoscope to make sure all the injectors are working properly. i know its sound stupid but you might want to check the ignition to make sure you didn't muff up the leads, the timing or that the vacuum advance hose isn't leaking.

sounds like a maf prob to me. but like alex said, check the ecu for codes

Well I did check ECU codes recently, and months ago when I was having problems then, and it just says 44 all the time, and If i remeber correctly, 44 is an all clear code. I will try again if someone will be so kind as to run me through the process one more time.

Also, someone said something about injectors, I do notice a hissing sound comming from the injector area, any suggestions?

And let me add this too; All of my problems started when my power steering pump siezed when the engine was on. I left the engine running for maybe 2 minutes when I noticed that the belt was pouring smoke, then I shut it off when I realized what it was doing. I just removed the power steering pump and started it up again and i've been having all these freaking problems...

And before that, all I did was a 5 speed transmission swap because I blew up the auto tranny.

Just thought this might help diagnose something...

thanx.

Also, the injectors were replaced because of the water issue, they're brand new.

I really need to find out why this thing is overheating at idle. If the firing order is wrong would that cause it to overheat? I can't check anything else until I find out why it's overheating, or i'll end up cracking a block or something which would suck.

I'm almost positive it's not my thermostat, I checked it a while back in a pot of boiling water and it opened just fine...I really need some guidance here I'm frickin stuck..

I've got it down to like 3 things I think it could be, the thermostat, the firing order on the car might be wrong, or the fuel injectors arent seated probably (the hissing noise I was telling you about)...

SOMETHING is making it over heat and I need to know what to check ( and most importantly; HOW TO CHECK IT), any help is greatly appreciated....

Thanks again in advance..

Ok guys, note to self; Make sure you put the fan shroud back on before diagnosing any more problems. A missing fan shroud can cause up to 50% of the airflow to go where it's not supposed to. :) I'm a retard.

Anyways, now that i'm not overheating, I've got other problems still.

It fires up when it's cold, and I have to keep my foot on the gas to get it to fire, when it fires it's running sluggish with random RPMs, it gets warmed up a little bit, runs for about 5 minutes, then in the matter of 10 seconds it runs at like 500 rpms and quits..

What's next gentlemen? thanks in advance. :)

now that the fan shroud is back in place, check the ecu diagnostics again. that might give you some light?

Can somone refresh my memory on how to reset the ECU and do proper diagnosis mode on it? Thanks

Exactly what I want to know.. made a thread about it though :/

Buzzs200sxdate not saved · #11

Well, I'm pretty sure you disconnect the cable for 15 seconds to reset, and turn the car on when your done... Then I think you turn the little dial on your ECU to " Mode Selector ", which is all the way clockwise, wait for it to blink to mode 3, then slam it back counter-clockwise, and it should start spitting codes..

I just want to make sure I have this right, because mine just spits 44 over and over, and if I remember correctly, 44 is an all clear code, which CAN'T be right. My car is running VERY sluggish when I can get it started...

Its even a pain in the ass to get started so I can see what else is making it run rough... Maybe someone can help me figure out why it's such a pain to get started?

when you check the diagnostics, you need to make sure that the engine is warmed up. if you check it when the engine is cold, the ecu will give you nothing because the engine is running on preprogramed start up codes.

also, if you can get ahold of another ecu, try that??
