..Man, what a day. I decided to tackle the s12 (tranny problem(s)). I drilled out the exhaust manifold studs to 27/64 (cause they were snapped, took forever!! thats JUST under 1/2" so that i could Tap to 1/2")well, drilling and Tapping sucked horribly (the metal shavings burn!!), but i knew it was for a good cause..So that was done...me and my buddy put the tranny, driveshaft, starter, and all other accessories related to a tranny drop back in, except exhaust..(get to that later)...I also had to bleed my clutch system, as for some odd reason, both times i dropped the tranny (yes 2!) air just so happened to get in the lines..weird, but bled and fixed ...so i start my engine (foot still on clutch) yea it was loud( mani's only YES I KNOW ITS BAD FOR VALVES, testing clutch operation only!), but not as bad as i had thought...I let off the clutch..TICK TICK TICK! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I just took out the tranny, ordered the new spring clip that held the bearing in place, replaced it and..TICK?i gotta a "tick" right here for ya F****r... So i was like ok, call it a night and throw on the y-pipe and cat back..well of course that was a PITA...didnt get the y-pipe on, just gave in to fatigue..Does anyone know where in gods name this tick is coming from??? Could it have anything to do with the random air seepage i had gotten? Please help me on this one...

Maybe there's something wrong with the clutch? Either that or a bad bearing in the trans itself. Did you take it all apart and look at everything?

Is it possible is has something to do with the speedo cable??...and are you sure it is coming from the tranny??? 8)

checked all the stuff in the bellhousing area(clutch, pressure plate, bearing, springs, everything)...I have found out that the clutch hyradulic system has a leak..Not sure where, but could that have anything to do with the tapping? I manually pressed on the clutch fork to make sure it was going into position, and it does (and still taps) so its not that..

sounds to me like worn transmission bearings.... they might still be intact but perhaps they're just old. how many miles are on this tranny, and how well was it taken care of... as in:

was the tranny lubricant changed every 30K to 45K, using a GL-4 MTL (not a GL-5 differential) lubricant?
was the car raced or clutch dumped frequently?
did you teach someone to drive stick on it, or learn on it yourself?
is there a leak in the tranny? if so, was the fluid level checked frequently?

that kind of stuff...

i'm no transmission expert, but that my .02

1.)--Changed twice since ive owned it (got it at 188,900 mi., now at 205,000) screwed up and put in GL5, but onlt in for less than 1000 miles (when the tick came about)
2.)--"raced" weekly, but rare on clutch dumps (3 total)
3.)--learned myself, but took only 48 hours to get a good grip
4.)--No leak, but checked every other oil change
