bart's geocities page has been deactivated due to inactivity

to go search the old forums go here, http://www.club-s12.org/forum

the difference between this forum url and the old one is after the /

the new one is /board....the old one is /forum....

Thanks for all the help, but i still got the same problem in the old forums. How do i reach bart? Or could someone just give me a step be step to get the damn door panel off. I could probably figure out the vinyl step, if i could only get the door off lol.

1. pop off the trim around the inside door handle
2. pop off two small covers under the arm rest -- they hide a screw behind each
3. if you have power windows, pop off the switch panel -- there's a screw behind there

otherwise you'll need to get the retaining clip off the manual windows so that you can pop the handle crank off

4. pop off the cover in the inside of the side mirrors, -- one more screw in there

i think that's all the screws; after that it's

5. start at the bottom and pop out all the body clips around the bottom and sides of the door

6. pull the panel upwards to slide out the ledge that sits inside the door with the window

Thanks alot...
I finally got the panel off...
Now i can start to rip off the freekin vinyl, its just that i got a ton of rust under the fabric. Is that normal?
Also can some one tell me some general step to replace the vinyl
And im gonna get a better door speaker too, any suggestions or model #'s i need to know?
Pics would be helpful.
Thanks

OMG help...
so im starting to get the vinyl off but those damn little bolts in the panell aren't commin off. CAn someone help me asap. And how do u actually put some new fabric on???
Thanks

the panel is held on with black metal washer-like things clamped onto little posts that are built right into the panel. you gotta pry off the black metal parts off from the posts, but it's pretty much impossible to get then off without breaking them off.

after you get that top part off, you just rewrap it with new vinyl. use some kind of adhesive to keep it on... not sure what works best, i tried super77, but lately i've notice it's coming off.. anybody know what to use?

Yeah I just did this with mine and now have struck car apholstrey (excuse the spelling) of my potential job prospects. It is a ral pain in the ass.

I was nearly going to document my efforts at the time but there was already a working link here so I did not bother.

Heres the guts of it:

1. I went and saw my local vinyl repair shop to get some ideas, vinyl glue, padding, and some foam replacement stuff. Went to the hardware shop and brought 15mm M3 stainless bolts with machine washers and nuts.

2. Pulled the door covers off in manner described by cjae.

3. Split the top foam/plastic bit from the bottom vinyl compressed fibro bit by removing the washers off the posts or the post all together. Don't bother to try and save the plastic posts when you remove the metal washers cause they are going to break every time. Just cut, bust, pry them off but try to keep the washers if u can.

4. You will have to cut the top section away from the bottom section (It will only be held together by the vinyl now) but leave enough vinyl overlap from the bottom section to cover any gaps from top section.

5. Peel all vinyl from the top section. If there are holes in the foam underlay (from sun, sweat) cut the bad foam out square and replaced it with the foam replacement stuff. This can be sanded to make a plush finish.

6. Drill out the broken plastic posts with a 4mm drill bit. Drill out right through the plastic and through the foam.

7. Glue the new vinyl and padding to only the bottom of the top section, (Plastic/Foam).

8. Attach the bottom section to the top section by pulling 15mm stainless m3 bolts through the foam (into the drilled holes) The heads of the bolts should be hidden in the foam and will be unoticable. Using a hacksaw blade cut off any of the bolts extending beyond the plastic. For the large holes in the fibro use the old washers kept in step 3.

9. Wrap the rest of the vinyl/padding over the top ang glue it down. Cut out and glue corners, key holes etc. By this time the glue fumes should kick in and the pink pixies will guide u through the rest of the process.

10. Excuse my short attention span but its Satrday night. I have just done this and its a really long winded process to explain. If u still need help mail me on [email removed]
