So i was driving to work one day, on my exit off of the freeway i suddenly notice my car has died, since the exit was a coming off down a hill i was able to cost to a parking space. Anyway, it would start back up, it would turn over, and sound normal until i let go of the key, at which point it would maybe sputter once and die. I noticed that if i applied gas while i held the key in starting position i could rev it up, but as soon i let go, it was as if the car wasnt getting any gas. so i got it towed home at the end of the day after work , I waited for a while, then went outside and tried it . . . WTF, it started up just fine, no problem :wtf:  Well, it has driven fine for a week now, and as i suspected would happen it died again, same problems, just rolling to a stop and it died and wouldnt turn on.
I was thinking maybe the comp is tweakin, :dontknow:
Anyone got any ideas, anybody have a problem like this?
What the!?

I had a problem similar to that with my car. Turned out the wires to the coil were toast. Sometimes the coil would fire, and then sometimes it would stop and the car would just die. It took the local auto electric place two hours to hunt down the problem and solder in two new wires to the connector, but it worked. Car has run fine ever since.
The wires going into the coil, or out of, or what? I dont get it, i think the coil is connected to the battery right? I dont really know much about that part of the car? Is it something simple, like something that i can easily do myself or would i need to take something out or apart? Details please!!!
Two wires run to each coil from the wiring harness. This is the signal the ECU sends it to fire. It then creates a huge amount of voltage and sends it through a spark plug wire to your distributor. The wires you're looking for are the two that run from the wiring harness to the coil plug connector. Check and see if they are frayed, loose, arcing to the body somewhere, etc.
Yah it sounds like the coil. It could also be a vaccuum line...however it seems unlikely with the symptoms that you have described. I would look at the coils for any burnt wires, or the like first, then go from there. 8)
exactly, i think ignition is the problem too. check out all of that, even the distributor. see what the self diagnostics say also.
been having pretty much the same problem too. haven't really solved it yet.. waited half a day yesterday and it worked again on it's own, before quitting a couple hours later.. cleaned the battery terminals this morning and it started up again, but we'll see what happens... keep us posted on if you find what was wrong..
this sounds just like the stuff that i went through a month ago. here is a thread to what was talked about. i hope this might help you. if not, oh well.

Did you replace the distributor with a better one, or was it the same as the stock?
its a normal, new one from autozone. about 200$ it helped me out alot. performance wise and reliability wise.
