i once read that a vg30 is heavier than a chevy 350sb....how much truth might there be to this...anyone know?

Yes if the 350 has Aluminum heads and waterpump.
:wtf: how did nissan accomplish that?
It's one solid block of iron. I'm pretty sure from the get-go they wanted the VG30 to be their premier engine with a power adder in their new "luxury sport coupe" 300ZX, so they just bulletproofed it. It was to be Nissan's greatest accomplishment, so they couldn't have a weak walled engine in it with failure problems.
I don't think the VG30E with the SOHC heads weighs more than a small block Chevy though. I'll have to check the actual numbers on that, but it's the VG30DE with the DOHC heads that's the fat boy. Even more overweight is the VG30DETT with the heavy cast iron manifolds and two turbos hanging off the sides.
last I knew...
VG30E = 500lbs
VG30DE = 700lbs
roughly?
I think some guy said that on the old board a while back. There's no way an aluminum head V6 is going to weigh 500 pounds on it's own though. My guess is that 500 pounds is the weight of the VG30E + Transmission + accessories + exhaust manifolds. The entire drivetrain package.
I'd lay odds it's not with the trans, but with everything else bolted up to it.
357lbs for the VG30E. That's the answer I got on Google.

That makes perfect sense, since the CA18ET is around 220lbs.
