alright my alternator died and i was wondering, since i have a pretty large sound system and lots of other eletrical drains (incuding dual batteries moved to the hatch), if anybody knows of a bigger amp alternator that would be a direct fit? if not i'll have to get a new stocker and see how long this one lasts me!!!

well if you have a VG30E then you can put on a 90-amp '88 Maxima Alternator which is a direct swap.. and for the CA series engines i believe you can use the 80-amp alternator from a 240SX (not to sure bout this one tho)

i tried putting the 90-amp maxima one i have on my SE on my CA20E S12 to see if it would fit.. and it seems like it would work except for one problem.. the holes on the alternator are too small to use the CA alternator bolts.. so maybe if you used different bolts it might work.. but it wasnt worth the hassle for me since i had another alternator from a turbo S12 available for my CA.. that ended up being a slight hassle too but i got it too work.. i might post some pics of the ghetto rigging i had to do later on

Radracer put a 240sx alternator on his car. http://www.club-s12.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5520&highlight=alternator

could you put a smaller pulley on a factory alternater to make it spin faster? just thinkin.

Technically yes, but it was designed for a certain pulley, so putting a smaller pulley on would kill the life span. alse depending on the size difference of the new pulley, you may need a smaller belt...8) In the long run it would be easier, and more cost effective to go the route of a different motors alternator...Maxima for SE's, and 240's for the CA's...8)

ok so i ended up getting one off of a later model s12 (mines an 85 i picked one out of the wreckers from an 87) because they bolt up the same and everything but they are 70 amp instead of 60. The only thing that needed changed was the one plug but that was nothin since the colors matched and everything, holds it right at 12 volts with the headlights on, my 1000w amp, foglights, eletric fan, and the dual battery setup!! :banger: :boobs: :hitit: LOL!!!
