Does it have something to do with mis-firing???...And if it does wat da heyal is mis-firing simplified???

depending on what kind of exhaust you have thats normal mine does it but i have 2.5 inch piping with no cat and a straight through muffler....

does it happen when u break hard or downshift???

try cleaning up the contacts on your cap and rotor. mine used to do that but i took some fine grit sandpaper and cleaned the corrosion off.

lol...i'm not talkin bout my ride...i'm talkin bout in general like on those televised d-1 races

ohhhh a car with a maf and a non recuiculating bov will backfire alot. basically the afm meters an amount of air coming in and injects that amount of fuel for it. when the bov vents it lets out that air so you create a rich condition. safc's have a setting you can use for dec airflow to prevent this.

Thats the only time it happens... unless i'm next to a honda at a like and rev like crazy!! LOL

Misfiring is when the air/fuel mixture in the combustion chamber fails to ignite. It can be caused by a fouled spark plug, bad compression, too much fuel entering the cylinder and drowning the spark plug, and weak or faulty ignition components. Detonation occurs when the air/fuel mixture ignites just from the heat and compression of the combustion chamber. Spark Knock is when detonation occurs after the spark plug is fired and causes the two spark fronts to knock into each other.

sideways you are on track, it also has a lot to do with valve overlap and hot exuasts. Valve overlap is the point in the combustion stroke when the intake and exaust valves are open at the same time, when putting together a turbo "race" car, you want a decent amount of overlap, so that the cold pressurized intake air can push through the whole combustion chamber and scavange out any excess exuast that was not "vacumed out" on the exaust stroke. As well, there is gasoline mixed with our pressurized air (fuel), so it blows throgh to the exaust too. This helps with exaust temps as well.

When acceleration accurs, the exaust temp is relatively low because of the blow through, so it is pressurizng and coating the exuast wheel, housing, and down pipe, with extra "waste" fuel. Letting off the accelerator though, stops the forced air, and fuel from comming, but the motor is still combusting exess exaust and attempting to spark it. This makes for an un-timed enifecient (meaning you cant feel it) combustion, with some flames, this ignintes into the exuast housing and swallows up all the exess fuel on the exaust, its scavenged out of the exaust, and finaly whooomp! comes out the tail pipe.

Pretty simple, Boost + High Overlap + non restrictive exaust + beefed up fuel deliver = Fireballs.

Also

Idoit mechanic who doesn't hook up an injector + lead foot = HUGE ASS 6 FOOT FLAMES!!!

ok guys, another reason fire and backfires come out the exhaust on race cars also has to do with management. The local V8 Supercars here in AUS run a spark arrestor on the gear knob, when they shift (without clutch) the arrestor is used to unload the drivetrain for the shift. In corners the car is being downshifted without clutch and the motec system is still running the fuel into the engine, but there's no spark as the gears are being shifted (interupted spark) so the car gets fuel pumped through the engine, into the hot exhaust and exploades............but thats all i know on the matter........it looks f**kin tuff on any car

hey I have another question

WHY THE HELL ARE NONE OF THESE THREADS STICKIED!!! :slap:

Mr.200date not saved · #14

better yet, Why The Hell is this in the What The Hell Is That? section?

;)

do the VG's have a crank angle sensor? When mine on my CA18ET was going bad....it would backfire and shoot flames out the tail pipe.

Thanks I was just about say something along those lines.

The "What the hell is..." section is not for questions with a pun in the subject.

It is is for tech only
