I was wondering my car blows black smoke outta the exhaust i have no cat and was always told black = rich white = coolant bluish = oil??? right so do you think it could just be my oxygen sensor? i have only had this car for like 4000 miles and the oxygen sensor says nissan!?!?! does that mean its still original?! :yikes: any input would be sweeeet!!
Black smoke... Oxygen sensor?

could be. my car has a brand new bosch 02 sensor with just over 1K miles and I shoot black smoke out the tailpipe under certain conditions. Some idles, always after backing off of boost, and sometimes just running rich all the time. I just need to figure out why the F its doing that.
I myself don't like the bosch 02 sensors. I had a brand new one and it failed on me in under 6000 miles. I replaced it with an NGK NTK unit and it seems to be working a lot better than the bosch one did even when it was new. I recommend the NGK products over bosch any day. I know Spencer on the old forum also had a bosch 02 sensor that went out under 10,000 miles. So I don't trust the quality of bosch anymore. Just by comparing the 2 units you can clearly see the higher quality of the NTK sensor. The tip of it has lots of holes for the gases to pass through for an accurate reading. The bosch unit only has 3 little slits in the tip so i can't see it being quite as good as the NTKs with the better tip design.
The turbo, and N/A O2's I believe might be different...and this may be why I have had no problems so far with my Bosch O2 sensor...I have put about 25,000 km's on mine so far, and I have had no problems...However all NGK, and NTK products are good. Another reason fo rhte black smoke could be fouled plugs. Use only NGK plugs, and preferably the Iridiums. BCPR5EIX-11 for the exhaust, and BCPR6EIX-11 for the intake. 8)
