I was browsing the club-s12.org Performance FAQs, and I saw Keith's MSD Blaster SS Ignition Coil Install article. I was wondering what the pros / effects of an ignition upgrade are, and if this install can work on a CA20E. If not, what upgrades are available for CA20E engines.

improved drivebility, better idle, smoother accel and better gas mileage. if you pair it up with some other mods you will also see a hp increase

Are the ignition systems in the ca18 and the ca20 the same? Would Keith's Blaster SS Coil install article apply to the ca20 too?

should work fine. blaster coils are like $35 from summit with free shipping. try it and if it does not work i am sure someone will take them off your hands... but before you do that make sure you have new plugs, cap and rotor. also new plug wires would not hurt. a coil would be useless without them.

I'm pretty sure the coil types differ between the ca18, and ca20. They physically look different anyway. When I looked at one of the brands of coils on their website, they listed different ones between the 2 engines....I can't remember which company though.
I just looked at Auto Zone's website, and they list the same part number for their coils for both engines......so maybe they will work.
If they don't.....most places like Summit have like a 90 return policy...so returning them wouldn't be a problem.

The connections are different sometimes, those blaster coils are universal and should work in nearly anything (well, maybe not the coil pack per coil cars).
