if its poping and farting from the inlet, the plugs are igniting in incorrect order. happeded to me n a mate with his 20v sprinter, it was backfiring out the quad throttle bodies. All it was were the leads were in the incorrect order, it is what happens then its 3am and you're tired. From memory, but dont quote me on it, the firing order is 1-3-4-2, thats the mjority of 4 clyinder cars. Also, check your valve timing is correct by alighning the marks, and that your ingition timing it set to 2 degrees BTDC (stock timing, but once going, advance it to 8deg with vacume hose disconnected). If this dont help, someone one here will figure it out

when you put in the new headgasket, do you take out the distributor? if so, when you put the distributor back, make sure that it is in the same position as when it came out. this would cause the car so act like you described.

Yah check the wires, then put the engine to TDC, and check the timing...99% chance it is one of those two...

today i been working all day with the car , i double check everything , timing mark with the engine on tcd , the distributor is on the mark too and the cables are in the corect order , still the car dosent start , it did almost but it was a false alarm and is poping out the intake like its not on the right timing i been 4 days working with this , i needed the car for monday , i spen all day trying untill the batery went dead

what about grounds for the ignition and coils and a all that?

Are the cables in the correct order via the disty markings, or via the drawings.... Some aftermarket disty covers can be installed 180 degrees off, and some also have bad markings.

i think that is what it is, when i fixed the car, i forgot to put the dizzy back in the same spot, now it runs fine, but like when i try to like "race" my engine, (drive it hard) it kinda hits a flat spot, and like 1st gear is at like 5gs and 2nd is at like 4.5gs and third is at 4gs etc etc, it is like it wont go any further/ faster!!! it runs fine till it hits that one point then it feels like it just stops accelerateing. any suggestions?

Sounds like it could be the crank angle sensor in the distributor. You may want to get it checked and hope its something else, there not cheap. May be able to find one at a junk yard and hope its good.

Edit: Sorry ignore that post. I didn't read the last post, its posible the intake coil isn't firing. Sounds like your hitting that 4000 rpm wall where the exhaust side cuts out at. I would check the primary coil and make sure its firing.

Well i fixed my timing problem, it simply was out of timing.
so i runs good now except for the light gentle surge.

Surge could be O2, or a slightly fouled plug, or a vacuum line...
