i may be picking up a 99ish vg33e relatively cheap. after looking over the pics though, i noticed a few slight differences. it seems the oil filter location, and the oil pan are both different. i'm thinking this is a simple fix, just use the ones off my vg30, right? oh, the lower intake mani is the same, right? i dont think the heads changed. any input would be great. its the vg33 out of the exterra/pathfinder (cant remember which)

Pathfinder has VQ35...the VG33E(R) is out of the Xterra. It will take a bit of mods, but it mathermatically will fit. It also has the supercharger option. Also the VG33 I believe is aluminum block, so things may be a bit different, but it should be able to work...8)
well just to help you on your search.. here is a VG33E long block out of a 2001 Xterra w/ 31K miles on it.. on ebay,.. starting bid is currently at $100 w/ 3 days left,.. i was really tempted to bid on it,.. but seeing that it would be a 12 hour drive for me (one way) it seems to be a bit out of the question.. anyways.,. here is a link:

you have an SE right? b/c if so then you'd be able to just straight swap over the stuff such as the upper and lower intake manifolds and exhaust manifolds and you'd be set..
anyways.. good luck and keep us updated with what happens!
actually, if you'd like to get technical, up until 2000, the pathfinder had the vg33e. (i noted possible 99) where as the 01 had the vq35, but i dont understand why they'd continue the vg33 in the xterra. it seems for production/cost reasons they'd want to simply have one v6. being a lighter, stronger engine, the vq should be it. in fact, i think the only remaining application to continue the vg series is the xterra/frontier. and even in the "R" trim it pales in comparison to the vq. i honestly cannot think of a good reason..engineering, marketing, or production-wise.
oh yeah, that vg33 on ebay was the one i had in mind,it's only like 2 hours from me. pisses me off though, in the last few hours did it rec'v its first bids.
Well, if you've already bought the motor, I think you can swap the pan over, but I don't know about the filter. the heads are almost identical except for a slight difference in the water passages. If you haven't purchased it yet, get a VG30E from a 300zx and have it bored.

I think it has to do with the fact that the Xterra and Frontier are trucks. Can you name a truck on the market with an Aluminum block engine?

But for reasons about the blocks here is one, they don't want the Pathfinder to have the same engine as a samller Ute...people generally look for the power rating, would you buy a bigger SUV if it came with the same engine as a smaller SUV??? It is lame but the best I can come up with...:dontknow:
makes sense...i still think its whack...but oh well, i guess when i'm an engineer for nissan i'll let them know. oh, and no, i havent bought the engine yet...but i thought the vg30's walls weren't thick enough to bore out that much? i need to freshen up my engine, be it with a rebuild kit, or just a replacment...honestly, i dont have any problems with it at all, but considering its an 87 and has at least 120k(speedo/odo is broken at 99k...not sure when that happened either) i drive it hard, so something will have to be done. but, as with most, i'd like more power...
Walls are plenty thick for a bore job, trust me, I've had it done.
oh wait, you have the 91mm's right? what pistons are you running?
Stock Pathfinder pistons.
Cap I thought you were gonna sell your s12? now your putting in a Vg33?
My whole question about the VG33 is what did you do about injectors and computer programing?

I went with a JWT tuned Z31 turbo ECU and Used NISMO 550CC injectors....I had no real fittment issues and the oil pan was a breeze.....Just had to call JWT and let them know what I was doing.....JUN also makes an ECU that will work....
Why a turbo ECU?
Why a turbo ECU?
Cause Ive got a T4 feeding it Air......
Wait a minute..................you're telling me that you have not only a 3.3l under the hood of your 200SX, but you also have a turbo on it??????
