Does anyone one knkow if theres any way that the stock tachometer on my 200 would be able to work with an SR20. Ive had the car without a tach for a while now, but its really getting to me, not having the tach work. I dont want an aftermarket one either. I heard there was a conversion out there, anyone know about this conversion????
TACH Problems

As long as the tack it self will screw into the stock location in the cluster, then the likely hood is that it would work. Now instead of the SR20, I would personally look at the Maxima, or Stanza from the late 80's to the early 90's...I've had then apart and granted I haven't tried it, but they do look rather similar from the rear. If I am not mistaken there is only three or four screws holding it on, and I think it is the same way with ours...however you gamble with anything from any other car...
As a side note I read somewhere that the S13, S14, and S15 were all the same(electronic wise), and only needed minor adjustment to fir properly, but I don't know if this is true seeing as how the S14, and S15 had inline 6's instead of the I-4 setup...
So in conclusion if you can't find an S12 tach, and you don't want aftermarket, I would suggest Stanza or Maxima...in fact thinking about it more try the stanza from the same year as yours...they probably bolt straight up...8)
Gerrybg sent this to me. Thanks!
you won't be able to get the tacho to run off the ECU s12 tacho can't be made to pick up the tacho feed signal from the ECU, what you do is get 4 diodes (5cents each from Dick Smith) as per instructions below:
" 4x IN4004 diodes connected to the coil side of the ignitor, about 3 inches from the plug is easy enough, then just joined the 4 diodes together on the tacho side and joined that wire straight to the tacho, the stripe on the diodes is towards the tacho (not sure if that is anode or cathode), and there you go the tacho worked fine...."
