OK, so my car last week was making some weird noise when steering, nothing major but a little noise. now when i drive and turn it makes a huge noise. steering is still responsive and shit but it's a big rubbing sound when i turn and i dunno what it is... any help would be much appreciated.

check out power steering fluid level. I have a leak in mine and when it goes low it makes a HORRIBLE noise. And it gets less as I add more and more. And vise versa. If its not that, have someone get iun your car and turn the wheel and you stick your ear near the rack and stuff under the hood. Its right near the exhaust manifold. Check for noise there.

could be a wheel bearing too ... they make a pretty horrible crunchy grinding sound if they're left alone to die.

usually starts out as a bit of a hum and vibration through the wheel

or a cv joint. especially if it's only in turns.

If you stop the car, and turn the wheels (do this preferably on dirt so that it is easier on the steering system, and tires) does the sound persist, or does it stop? if it doesn't make any noise then it is like SSChung and Mr.200 said, and is most likely a half shaft or wheel bearing, but if it still makes noise, it is the steering wrack, and you are most likely leaking like most of the 200's. just keep it topped up with fluid (DEXRON ATF). 8)

im gonna go try the turning while stopped thing.

arent the wheel bearings supposed to be permagreased?

edit: the fluid level is below the bottom line on the little dip stick

driver's side by the brake fluid. the golden canister with black cap

that's the power steering resevoir.

if you jack up the fornt end of your car the wheels are easy to turn(can even do it by hand) so no worries of damage

yeah, i found it, topped it, and all is good. i saw some stop leak stuff at can tire and am wondering -

A) does it work?
B) should i use the ATF stop leak cause the pump uses ATF fluid, or should i use PS stop leak because it's the PS system?

Not sure. about using ATF leak or PS stop leak I've used a bottle or two of this one brand of PS stop leak (I try to find out which one tommorrow) and it slowed it down to almost nothing.

yeah, I've had good luck with Stop-Leak brand PS leak stopping ... uhm, goo.

Had better luck tossing the belt and pump though ;)
